GTA 1 was the best. 3D is for people with no imagination.

Did you ever play the original Driver game? That game was pretty nice, but the latest ones seem like they're trying too hard to be GTA.

The London games were very nice, also, and I think they were better than The Getaway, which was another London-based sandbox crime game.

Yes, The Getaway wasn't a very good game. Awful driving physics.

I actually do hope that the next GTA is set, once again, in Vice City. GTA: Vice City was very colourful, and even though it was basically Scarface, the gritty story wasn't set against a cathederal of murk and brown like GTA 4 is.

Yeah, GTA 4 was a massive disappointment. Swimming graphics, bland color palette, bare-bones content. Another Vice City would be good.

GTA 4 wasn't a disappointment for me, it was just reassuringly "next-gen", nice graphics put through a filter of mud and coffee. Liberty City is nice to visit, boring to stay - it ends up looking the same after a while.

also, vice city blah, blah was great but people forget that gta3 was the real game changer. retrospectively its obviously one of the weaker of the series and hasn't dated particularly well but it was still a tipping point for game development.

I don't think anyone has forgotten that. You said yourself it's "obviously one of the weaker of the series and hasn't dated
particularly well" which is why nobody here is talking about it.

I really enjoyed GTA3 when it came out, it was engrossing - especially since there hadn't really been much in way of competition at the time in that market. But revisiting it gives a similar feel to GTA4: infinite amounts of grunge and grey, yet it has more of the "fun" elements that GTA has (had) made its signature - the RC car vans, planes without wings and snarky radio presenters. I think GTA4 took the "realism" pill and ended up in a factory of dull.

san andreas was by far the best entry in the series.
GTA 1 was fun when it first came out though. I used to get a fairly high multiplier and then put together a chain of cars, shooting one while the rest explode via the domino effect. Big money. I'm not very nostalgic about it though. I remember it was fucking hard to aim at things, which made the missions a pain in the ass.
