Took me like an hour alone to perfect those basslines just
right.

a dubstep track IS the bassline so no wonder. is that
massive ? z3ta ?

Massive <3

Wait Z3ta is capable of making dubstep basslines?

it's absolutely AWESOME for making basslines in general.

that's maybe a bad example but pendulum does all his lines
on z3ta. a lot of dubstep artists are using it actually. it
has a distinct sound.

it's quite difficult but gives good results.

lazy z3ta

i made all the basslines besides that "main theme" one in
z3ta+

I think I'll give it a try
I Always feel bad pirating because I'm stealing someones
hard work.

lazy dubstep

my super gay attempt to make dubstep - all sounds besides
the drums are made with z3ta

rough draft also only z3ta sounds - also that super gay
pad which is actually a untouched preset

I wish I had speakers to compliment the bass more =[
I'm not capable of listening to music with a nice sound
system anymore.

Oh yeah
Nice dnb ;)

oh lol

another one with that gay pad. i lvoe that pad so much but i
just couldn't find a way to put it into a track so i once
sat down and just put it everywhere. it didn't work out
though.

oh and this track has basslines made with massive

mind the god awful mastering in those tracks. jeez.

I think the drums should be changed a small bit but I do
like the bass line, how long did it take you to mess with
the cutoff filter to get it to sound like that?
or well the whole song in general?

when it comes to piracy i usually repeat the quite pathetic
sentence "i will buy it if i make money with it"

have you made any money with your music? oh yeah fhd.mp3 was
rad.

offline sadist from the dark side of the moon on 2010-02-19 16:58 [#02367756]
Points: 8670 Status: Lurker

not that much actually - you can make those "wobbly" sounds
with z3ta very easily.

you connect an lfo to the cutoff of the filter and then you
make an envelope which controls the speed of the lfo and
just draw along.

this is the thing that i hate in massive that when you check
the "sync" option in the lfo you cannot control the speed of
it with an lfo. z3ta is capable of it so you just switch
between 1/8, 1/16 notes speed and so on.

what you can do in massive is make an envelope to control
the cutoff, just draw a tilted line and then copy paste it
for your needs. that gives some cool effects when you use
different lines once straight once parabolic etc.

ds_3 also came out very fast because all the basslines where
created by just duplicating z3ta and slightly changing the
oscilator parameters. i usually do something like that.

it's hard to tell if i made money. in the end i think i
spend more money on making than i earned. hell like three
times. i usually played for friends so they mostly gave me
money for tickets and a few free pints on the bar.

i had 3 "official" live sets where i got more money i
usually spend it all on parts for midiboxes or other gear.

offline sadist from the dark side of the moon on 2010-02-19 17:02 [#02367758]
Points: 8670 Status: Lurker

there is also the time factor - i tend to not play the same
set twice and usually build it from scratch. this is very
time consuming compared to someone playing a whole tour over
and over the same set again.

offline sadist from the dark side of the moon on 2010-02-19 17:11 [#02367759]

going back to dubstep - the difficulty with dubstep is that
you cannot make a good track depending only only on the
synth - mastering does a lot. compression and eq is key to a
good sounding bassline.

i'm very curious how professional artists make their tracks
and especially basslines. when you listen to their tracks
it's not the synth you are listening to but the sound is
altered through dozens of effects. how they are able to
tweak the sound in a synth already thinking how it will
sound through all those comps is very impressive.

offline sadist from the dark side of the moon on 2010-02-19 17:14 [#02367760]
Points: 8670 Status: Lurker

i mean you pop up z3ta and you have a sound but you (i
suppose) don't know how much more power you can get from it.

for me it was just to frustrating listening to stuff like
this. i ended up trying to recreate such a harsh
sound but failed miserably. you know i was tweaking the
knobs in the synth but actually i should be rather thinking
further how to compress it and so forth. i'm sure the
initial sound in this track is probably a cat barfing and
ended like this after mastering.

i like your drunkstep.

the sound clips kind of distract tho, need some eqing/slight
reverb to mesh with the rest of the track.

I'm not sure I remember doing a remix of one your loops.
It's possible though. Must've been quite a while ago.
