Every time i hear an 8bit chip track it's always so overdone
or deliberately cheesy, with the endless arpeggios and
shit.

Now i haven't seen ANYONE do tracks on the Adlib chip, now
that's interesting and something i'd like to hear.

chiptune as an exclusive genre is fairly tired yes, but who
can say no to delicious 8bit synths popping up in tracks
like this delicious track?

At least 8bit pixel art hasn't been done to death.

check out my boy oxygenstar he's been getting into
midines lately, but he's been doing Adlib for a while. i'm
waiting an old laptop from ebay with the SB16 soundchip so i
can use adlib without emulation.

also i'm sure everyone will hate on this and call it
cliche'd, i started a netlabel called Handheld Heroes. if
you like it you can get CDs for $8 ($5 goes to the artists).
if you don't like it, don't.

fact: everything in photoshop or mspaint is technically
pixel art, a higher resolution doesnt change that

To be fair, I believe the reason for those arpeggios is
because they were monophonic and chords would have to be
established via single sequential notes.

pixel art is drawing at the scale of the pixel. when you
edit a picture in photoshop you're working in a different
level.

Good thing I wasn't talking about color depth because that
would have been daft *phew"

but technically everything in photoshop is a pixel, opposed
to illustrator which is vector based. its just extremely
high resolution pixel art

offline yann_g from now on 2010-01-28 16:18 [#02362778]
Points: 3772 Status: Lurker

vectors are used in photoshop too. fonts for instance are
made of vectors. a *.psp file often contains vectors. and
technically everything displayed on a computer screen is
pixels. because paint is made of atoms doesn't mean painting
is atom art.

Since when is photoshop's text vector based? It always
looks like crap compared to illustrator. Is there some
anti-aliasing option on text that i don't know about?

i think it sounds pants. i know im generalising and
overlooking a few ive quite enjoyed but its pretty boring.

yeah, ps is definitely not vectors. but it's all defining
genres, which are arbitrary mental creations so there's not
much use arguing over it.

there's too much 8bit music, and too much dubstep, and both
has been done to death and is kinda boring now. the idea of
combining them made me a little sick on the insides, but i
really dig quarta330 and tapes (and this is in regards to
chiptunes in general.)

quarta330 is very cool. they're sparse, but when he hits
those deep bass tones it's delicious.
