together with my friend i made a harsh noise soundtrack to a movie (guinea pig - a japanese gore flick).
the movie is a avi file with some weird codec and i recoded it with some free software into mov so i could toss it into ableton and master the soundtrack there.
now ableton has a feature which allows to create a video file. the problem is just that whichever codec and settings i choose the movie ends up either pixelated or huge as hell.
so i tried to put the sound alone and the movie into sony vegas but i still can't really find a good setting.
now what i'm asking for is if someone is able to download two files i put up on the internet (300 mb for the original movie file and a 600 mb wav file) and mix it down in any software so that the output quality of the movie is similar to the original and the audio is unaltered as much as possible.

yeah Ableton is not exactly the best software to compress video files.
have you tried h.264 codec in Quicktime?
i can try it if you like..

yeah i tried actually - on medium settings the movie part takes up somewhere about 50 mb and on high 700-800. i tried something in between but it still looks like ass.
i try to upload the stuff i just have to make a package and break it into pieces so rapidshit will take it.

without a premium account there is no way of downloading something from rs. the changed their rules about half a year ago. befor that i had 150 kb straight from them and always a free slot, now suddenly - no free lots. coincidence?
anyways mu is the way everybody knows it.

602MB.. did it with ffmpeg, tbh i never used it before. Was really straightforward.. just copied the raw data as is without altering a single bit.

okay that was fun and noisy :]
i liked the music in the 'collection' part best, but it was very effective throughout.
LAZY_TITLE
hope i did this right: i stripped the audio of the original flick and replaced it with your soundtrack.. no actual mixing involved.

this came out absolutely how it was supposed to be ! thanks bunches.
is it possible for you to elaborate how you did that exactly ? this would come in very handy in future projects.
also - may i use that link to share it with a few people - or are there any limits or do you want to delete it soon ?

yo i had installed the command line version of ffmpeg the day before just out of curiosity.. this is the most difficult part especially if you're unfamiliar with the matter (compiling from source) as i am, but there's instructions for all OSes … took about 30 minutes an Mac… (the Windows install looks more complicated though…) But it seems worth it, really fast and flexible with tons of options.
basically you navigate to the folder containing your material and then tell it what to do i.e. for your vid it was:
"ffmpeg -i input.avi -an -vcodec copy output.avi" means take the input file, remove the audio (-an), copy the video as is (-vcodec copy) and save it to a new file.
and then: "ffmpeg -i output.avi -i audio.wav -vcodec copy -acodec copy mix.avi"
take both the new video file + the audio file as input, copy both their raw data and create a new .avi file from that.
etc etc...

i wanted that second command line to put some audio back into the video because i coudn't find it on cdm.
awesome stuff - as i said this came out exactly as it should with the quality of the video unaltered and the sound uncompressed so it sounds harsh.
thanks bunches i owe you one.
