Well, I bought this album on a whim a few months ago without having ever heard any of Dntel's stuff. I must say it has really grown on me since then and I'm very glad I took a chance on it. It reminds me a bit of early 90s AFX/Aphex stuff but I could be wrong as I haven't listen to much of either lately. Whatever it sounds like, I think it's pretty good. Plenty of nice synths and classic drum programming. Check it out.

Giving this one *bump* before I admit to myself that no one's interested.

Well Zephyr, the titles of the tracks have sparked my interest.
Did you just see a review or something that made you want to buy it?

Didn't see any reviews, just happened upon it in the (usually very lame) Electronica section in a shop near me. I had heard Dntel mentioned once or twice on this board many years ago, and as it was 3 discs I figured there might be at least one tune to my tastes. As I understand it, he does mostly indie rock-type stuff these days, but this is his electronic music from the 90s with a bunch of previously unreleased tracks thrown in. It feels sort of like an archeological find, perhaps not highly-valued in its time but priceless to those searching for new music from that era.

Dntel, as are Figurine and James Figurine, very hit-and-miss, in my opinion. Postal Service is still one of his strongest outlets.

I'd like to check that album out. Also, I could be very wrong about Dntel doing mostly rock-ish stuff now as I haven't heard any of his music besides Early Works... II. There are a couple tunes on this album that I consider to be absolute gems, though. Very glad I found it.

You may be right. There are a handful of rather forgettable tracks on this album but for the most part it's really rather good. A "grower" for sure.

have this then, it's quite lovely but not really that representative of the album as a whole - bit of a mixed bag though it all flows very well. you can really hear where postal service came from but i think the dntel stuff is much more subtle
oddly enough i bought life is full of possibilities years back without knowing anything about it, god bless thee vinyl exchange
