i'm getting a book and a bit of money just. Is anyone
getting anything pant wettingly exciting so that they're
anticipating christmas like a child?

well i'm perma-skint and i always get money- i was asked if
i needed anything and asked for the complete short stories
of jg ballard so that should put the day in nicely. I do
miss the mental anticipation you had as a child for
christmas. . . maybe i'll buy some Lego or something and get
up at 6am to make it just for old times sake.

"maybe i'll buy some Lego or something and get up at 6am

"

That's a page right out of my childhood book. I'll never
forgot the morning I woke up to find the Lego space monorail
set under the tree. The box seemed so huge back then! I
bought this the other day as an early christmas
present to myself... It had been ages since I put a lego set
together and reliving those memories was pretty much
awesome.

For the first time in 10 years I have no idea what I'm
getting and I can't control my excitement at the prospect
of some socks and a book or maybe a DVD I don't want or
already own!!!!!!

the price of those starwars sets is mental- I noticed cloud
city for £600! This is cool- LAZY_slave1

re indeksical- yes, i'd expect nothing less than a real
bronx cheer when you get a novelty tie and a pirates of the
caribbean box set.

I bet I get a jetpack or something now and I'll feel dead
guilty about posting in this thread. I asked the missus to
get me a PS3 controller and she told me to fuck off.

Well you have to get them before they sell out in stores,
which doesn't take long. Once the stores stop carrying them
the prices skyrocket. I've been tempted to get some of the
other star wars sets but can't justify spending the cash on
them.

understandable. i think if i really wanted to spunk
impressive nostalgic jizz i'd aim my fiscal bell over
here. I've flicked through his art books and
they're stunning. and stunningly expensive but art/design
books tend to be.

way to see larger versions of all those thumbnails?

probably a Roxy Music album, a couple of books by Stanislaw
Lem, Ursula Leguin, maybe District 9 on blu-ray...

too old to get excited by xmas but it's a nice time to spend
with family.

SPACE MONORAIL!

A couple years ago, I was looking through some old Lego sets
online and sent a link to the monorail to my mom, exalting
the virtues of it. She asked why I never had asked for it
and explained I had every year, I just never got it.

Later that year when I came home for xmas, I went into my
bedroom to find that gigantic fucking box. I immediately sat
down on the floor, spilled the pieces everywhere and began
assembling.

I am a 23 year old male and some of the most fun I'd had all
year was putting together a Lego set stoned at 3 AM.

On another note, this year I will be getting a pair of
Sennheiser IE7 in-ear monitors to replace my shitty Sony
buds. I'm pretty stoked to have some proper bass response in
my ears.

im looking forward to another space novel by
alastair reynolds. i had no real wishes this year,
my biggest thrive is to travel some next year,
but seems i have to spend my savings for a new pc
since the old one is falling apart and spare parts
are getting rare. so the number of things to give will be
larger than the things to receive this time :)

Wow, she was able to find the set new in box? That must have
cost a pretty penny, unless there is a new version of the
space monorail that I'm not aware of. Legos were and still
are my favorite toy of all time.

it wasn't new in box, she found a collector who sold the
original sets with all the packaging and everything, it just
lacked the shitty plastic baggies the bricks came in. i was
okay with this.

But I think I might have to sell some guitars, too.
Fuck.

I'm having like a Christmas Special life, where "just
living" is going to be my gift or something. Yah, thanks a
lot, life. THANKS A FUCKING LOT!!!

havent read any banks, might give it a shot
most of reynolds books play in the same universe
but the books are closed stories in various eras and
places.
ive read reveleation space, aurora and chasm city
and liked them all. i think id recommend revelation space
for starters, it was the first i read and a great debut.

it's with an arts trust, in charge of their online+real
world promotion.

i heard from my 'sources' that i'm the only candidate left
(this is a follow-up interview) and they're just making
sure, which has made me confident but i'm not putting all my
hope in it yet..
