It turns out VLC is what I wanted all along. Opens in a
fraction of a second, uses minimal resources, plays
everything, has a basic playlist, looks decent on osx,
doesn't want to sell me anything, isn't designed for mentals
who don't know what a filesystem is.

unfortunately, development on the Mac OS X version of VLC is
looking like it could be finished due to lack of developers
donating time and coding to the project

good that you found what you're after though

naw, they just stopped maintaining the old interface because
they're writing a new one.

And Apple doesn't want VLC listed on their downloads website
so slow children like Pawel won't find out about it.

but, what about the easability of iTunes store? Being able
to buy music and play it in minutes. you act like everyone
uses iTunes just because it's iTunes. I have VLC installed,
but using the finder window to find a song instead of
browsing through all my songs seems kind of assinign.

Finding is good if you know what you want.
Browsing is better if you don't know exactly what.

He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had
taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the
dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O
stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-
scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it
was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was
finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big
Brother.
