autechre

i made a little program which runs in a browser, it
searches flickr for photos tagged with 'autechre', gets rid
of the background, then it lets these fotos rain down the
screen. it will take a little time until it finds some
suitable pictures. click mouse to see monkey instead of
trails. this is all.

LAZY_TITLE

(you'll get a security pop up, this is because you have to
allow the applet to talk to flickr. if you're on a 64-bit OS
you need to start your browser in 32-bit mode.)

some images poured for a couple of minutes but nothing I
could really relate to autechre. The mokey looked quite
happy with the results though.

sometimes it hangs a bit for unknown reasons and doesn't
load new images apparently... try refreshing. Have to say
though 'autechre' is not the best search term for this.
Building tag input field now :)

if you exchange "autechre" for "retard" do you get thousands
of ampi max raining down the screen?

that was interesting - didn't know you could put processing
stuff online. i seriously have to get into it more.

can you also put some stuff with sound on ? like a embedded
drum machine or else ?

there is a library for sound.. i suppose you can even build
synths with it, but i haven't tried this. i reckon it should
be enough for firing samples in a sequence, but Processing
is simply not designed for making music and most forum
threads are just about visual stuff, so there's not much
references towards sound-making with it. sending/receiving
midi/OSC and triggering external sound makers works fine
though (albeit you have to get into multithreading for
precise timing which is obviously required for sequencers
etc..). There's actually plenty libraries for all sorts of
communications with devices/file formats/network, and it's
not too hard to sync it with your music making environment
of choice and use it just for visuals...

anyways here's v2 with text input: LAZY_TITLE
type, then confirm tags with enter.
let me know if you find tags that work well lol.

i can't get v2 to work, i just get a flashing screen and
then i click on the text bar and there's the monkey and i
hit enter and nothing happens

it's a shame because i think using the tag "face" would be
awesome

hmm.. does text input not work?

you don't have to click the text bar specifically, once the
app is in focus just start typing. using space key you can
input more than one tags, clear all is delete or backspace,
confirm with enter/return. or at least this is what happens
here...

i thought v2 wasnt working either, but it just took a bit of
time to load. i spent that time wisely by looking at the
monkey
