right then, ken's a bit hungover and needs a decent thread to sort out his PAIN.
my question today is.. what is your favourite band ever ? why?
mine has to be joy division because they were the band i grew up with and listening to unknown pleasures today still blows me away-martin hannets production on that record was stunning. and lyrically, ian curtis was phenominal. and is stephen morris the best drummer ever?? all born from a band who went to sex pistols gig and thought 'that seems a bit of a laugh'...go on then, whats yours???

Mine is absolutely hands down...The Cure... Like you KEN, I gre up, well since about 5th grade, listening to the Cure. As corny as it sounds, their music REALLY helped me through some LOW times and has ALWAYS made me soooooo happy....
Disintegration and Faith will always have a special place in my heart.
Robert Smiths quick with and absolute brilliant songwriting will NEVER be matched....
They were and still to this day could be the soundtrack to my dreams...good or bad.
=)

That's a tough one. I'd have to say the Manic Street Preachers. While their stuff and direction has been lame since the Holy Bible, that album has touched me like no other.
Its got great lyrics and stripped down, raw music. I recommend it to everyone. Forget the crap they've put out before, and since then - this is the shit.
It also marked a change in my life. I was about 16 and started taking an interest in the world. That album is a great reference point for politics, literature and ideas.

for me it's nine inch nails...
i got into them around the perfect drug was released...and fell in love ever since...I still think that the downward spiral is the best cd ever created (even the artwork is phenominal), i love the tracks like the becoming, herasy, erasur. trent's programming was so unique, and insanely beautiful. and trent's work has always been an influence. i got into electronic because of aphex twin...but it was trent who got me into aphex...if it wasn't for nin...i'd still be listening to "bone thugz n' harmony."
heh, it's funny because when i first saw closer premierd on mtv, i was all like "fucking head-bangers, with their fucked up videos, and pulling apples out of pig's mouths, and names like "clooooooser" and "frrrrrrrrrizzle fry" and "mr. kriiiiiiiinkle" and "pork soda."
now i think closer is one of the most beautiful vids ever...and that whole "dirty orange" look trent had back then...i really fucking wish i was into his stuff when he did his self-destruct tours...
