this is not 3d projection anyway. it's called projection mapping, which is cool, but not 3d - it's done with ordinary projectors. some software maps (i.e. perspectively distorts) video content so that it appears correct on surfaces not perpendicular to the lens. that's all. |

Well, it's not 3d in the sense that a hologram is 3d, but "3d graphics" on computers aren't true 3d either, you're still viewing them through a 2d lens, IE the monitor. So, yes, this could be called 3d projection, if only to distinguish it from regular flat-wall projectors. |

I imagine beam of such projector must be pointed exacly at object, and precise distance to match object, also you have to calculate shadow geometry and object lightening. Intrestin is it so realistic looking from different angle? |

Fair enough, I see where you're coming from. But what would you call the effect where the projectors display a glowing orb in front of the columns, and then move it behind the columns, and finally into the building itself creating an effective 3-dimensional illusion? As I said, no form of "3d" that humans have thus far created is actually 3d. When you go see a new movie in "3d" you're still looking at a 2-dimensional screen. That's all I'm saying. Maybe they should be called "2.5-D standard projector arrays" or something. |

i haven't seen this technique in meat space, but judging from videos it seems there is just one optimal viewing angle. with that orb for example, if you stand at say a 30 degree angle to the wall, it will distort and you'll see an ellipse, a flat projection on a flat wall. That said, i think it's still nice stuff especially with many projectors that are synced well etc... personally i like installations that are done with LEDs.. projectors are so weak against ambient light |

That would be true if the image didn't move at all. There's clearly a 3-dimensional illusion of depth created by the moving orb. I get that it's not truly 3d but I'm just talking about enjoying the effect at face value, and to the layperson it could be described as "3d". |

Yeah, it's a bit annoying that it's mis-labled as "3d" when it's just a neat trick. Still fun to watch, though. :] |

So maybe it should be called 3D illusion projector, because it is not 3D. larn if you could look at different angle to this projection, you clearly could see imperfections of 3D, so it is 3D illusion. 3D halographic imiges is very different technology, it is far more complicated, than 2D projector images fited to buildings and walls. |
