i don't know why but the first film that comes to mind is 2002 'Cypher' A spy thriller, an existential thriller and a brainteaser all at once, with great performances and hallucinatory visuals it's main theme has similarities which obviously are taken from the work of philip k dick.. and Lucy lui is in it, mmm :P |

Inland Empire, nothing can be more mind boggling (and disturbing) than that. a good surround sound and large screen set up are essential however for maximum effect, oh and a dark room. |

i love Cronenberg and haven't seen Scanners yet. Inland Empire is Lynch's 2nd best after Eraserhead imo. Celine and Julie Go Boating looks good. Keep em coming :D |

yes. well everyone keeps raving about Jodorowski, but when i finally saw this, i thought it was overdone much, i.e. it felt he was cramming *everything* inside that he could think of. Same with Holy Mountain... is it weird to compare Jodorowski to Matthew Barney? i really like Cremaster Cycle, which also has a lot of this surreal symbolism, but much more abstract which is good. Doesn't try to explain the world so hard. gonna check out the two French films you mentioned... also, i've seen Solyaris and Stalker, what else from Tarkovski would you recommend...? |

You see, I'm the opposite. Didn't care much for Cremaster, but I do admit it's beautiful. The Sacrifice (Offret?) and the Mirror are the other two Tarkovskys I've seen. I like all four about the same. |

It's not strange to compare Jodorowki to Barney; both rely heavily on set pieces. Also, 'Veronique' takes place in Paris and Poland, but the director, Krzysztof Kieslowski, is Polish. All of his stuff is good. |
