Some of my favorite graphics on this one. Like all the little details. Beat this one on normal difficulty. Couldn't get past the first boss on extreme though. Had a version that featured a no kill mode where all the enemies had to be stunned. Wonder if anyone beat the game on extreme and no kill? My first visit to Tokyo happened to coincide with the release of solid 3. Saw some amazing launch merchandise in Akihabara.

i loved the tanker thing, but the oil platform kinda put me off a little, dunno yes it had a lot of cool little things but also wasn't gritty enough...? nothing can beat mgs1.

Kid napping the president in order to gain an unlock code for a metal gear isn't so ridiculous. The parts about revolver ocelot needing body parts from other people was a bit odd though.

"The parts about revolver ocelot needing body parts from other people was a bit odd though. "
And when it came time to explain this stupid plot point in MGS4... well I still don't know what the fuck happened.
MGS2 is by far the worst in the series, but it's still incredibly memorable and creative, I replay it often. But it's hard to sit through all the cutscenes, the game is so poorly paced compared to MGS1 and 3.

"nothing can beat mgs1."
agreed. The story of MGS4 was the worst of the series, in my opinion. Never played 3.

MGS4 story made no sense whatsoever to me, considering the amount of time and effort into cutscenes in those games its unforgivable.
On the other hand the art direction is probably the best I have seen in a game, the futuristic adverts at the beginning, never seen that before in a game.

MGS4 has some great action cutscenes and a few interesting conversations, but they needed to hire an editor. Maybe something is lost in translation, I know the Japanese tend to be more... verbose in things like this, but they would spend way too much explaining things, and then often explaining them again. Not to mention MGS4 had to clean up MGS2's mess. And they failed, of course.
MGS3 is the best in the series and the best game ever. Being sort of self-contained and set in a different period protected it from having to explain MGS2's bullshit. It just told a really fun action potboiler with a perfect amount of weirdness, humor and melodrama. Kojima's eccentric brilliance at its most pure.
Anyone with a PSP should play the Peace Walker demos, it's basically a straight-up MGS3 sequel, the game will be fucking amazing.
