Look at it this way, you had your $1000 all year and it was
invested and gaining interest for you (I hope). If you had a
$1000 refund, the government was earning interest on
your money all year!

The best thing to do is play with your deductions until you
are as close to $0 as possible.

I am so glad we don't have to deal with tax returns in this
country - it gets taken at source here. Most things include
tax, with the exception of certain things.

49%!!!! That's criminal! I think about 25% of my earnings is
lost to tax.

Do people in the US usually work out their taxes accurately,
or is it normal to get a refund?

see me being an american right there makes me lazy so i just
have the govt. take out however much they feel is necessary
and when i fill out my income taxes at the end of the year i
always get like mad cash back from them because they always
take out more than they should have in the first place so i
just leave it up to them to make the errors then i go back
over their work and correct all of their mistakes. did i
make any sense?

What do you have to put on these sheets then? Do you have to
keep all the receipts for everything you buy, and declare
them? Or is it sufficient to just let them know how much you
earn?

it's quite simple, for me at least, your employer sends you
a form with all these fuckin' boxes and #'s and you just
pick up a different form from the library or post office and
fill out the corresponding boxes on the form from the
library with the ones from your employer and bust out your
calculator skills and boom you be done and all you do is put
the form you filled out in the mail and kick back relax and
wiat for the check!

What about "Mystery VAT woman" ;)
Didn't it turn out she was doing it right after all or
something?

I reckon there should just be tax at one stage, like a 30%
VAT on all goods and services that everyone pays, even
companies. No taxes or stealth taxes that way and it'd cut
down on admin costs too. Bloody admin people leaching money
when their job could be done more effectivley by a computer.

Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

Should five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet

Taxman!
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman

Don't ask me what I want it for (Aahh Mr. Wilson)
If you don't want to pay some more (Aahh Mr. Heath)
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

Now my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

And you're working for no one but me
Taxman!

Taxes are good , i just wish that the rich fuckers would pay
them to.
They always find ways to avoid them and we common people is
left with the bill.

I told you that I had apologised to the poor woman - you
don't need to rub salt into the wounds!

Everyone else: I teach night school and I did Excel one
week, and did a simple invoice with my class. My invoice
used a formula to calculate the VAT, and this woman in my
class said that my way was wrong and her way was right. What
Ceri is reffering to was the fact that she went home from my
class thinking she owed the Tax people hundreds if I was
right!! :) She actually calculated the amount of taxable
tax on a total figure, as opposed to my way which showed the
tax that need to be added to a total!

Ceri JC : :P

What sucks is when you get money back and your like "yeah I
got me a fat check!" but you know it was yours in the first
place. Of course taxes are necessary, but where the hell do
these idiots come from who choose how tax dollars are spent?
I don't vote for em.

it's just nice ya know 'cause like you're getting two months
pay at once and it's usually when you could really use the
$.

Apparently Wesley Snipes has been nailed for not paying his
taxes. He said he hasnt had any income since 1996, guess he
just stars as Blade for the fun of it.
