I did some research and Guitar hero looked a bit better, so I got that (4th one).
And tonight I just got drums, guitar AND mic for £111. But then I read a review of the Guitar Hero drum kit and it said they weren't very good...
But I guess it'll just be cool to have these new toys to play with! ^^
So what's your experience of these games?

What I found is that I'm better at laying the guitar flat and using it as a disastrously designed keyboard.

This. Playing a game like this alone leaves you with the depressing punch that you're sitting alone in your front room/bedroom playing with a plastic toy, strumming as if you had just solidified an air guitar.

The appeal is supposed to be that you can "be your favourite rock star", that is if your favourite rock star spent his days alone dwelling in a slummy front room gazing at tetris blocks cross a line while pressing buttons as if he were a pointless automaton.

But then again I enjoy rhythm games somewhat as I basically like to test my dexterity.

in all seriousness i agree. this gameplay mechanic of 'push the right button at the right time' is pretty fucking lame. it might be more sophisticated but its still essentially track and field with music. mash the buttons. did you ever play Stroker? :)

I've never heard of it, but the Wiki sells it:
The game "play" went into different phases, the first one by reaching an erection by moving your hand up and down at a defined rhythm. Later on you start rubbing your penis using the joystick up and down.
Much like in real life, things like premature ejaculation may happen and you would have to slow down or pause your rhythm to avoid the inevitable.

But the thing is, do you need to spend money on a peripheral based game to test your dexterity? I could make a Beatles joke about John and Yoko's band being called The Plastic Ono Band at some time, but I just did.

the games are fun and nice for teens, kids, younger people, but it's really lame to see drunken dropouts spend whole days going over the same 50 songs to test their reflexes.

The drums are definitely worth the money (for me, at least). You can think of the drum set and Guitar Hero game as being similar to typing games you may have played in school when you were learning to type. The game tells you where to place your fingers and what order to press the keys in and, after a while, you don't need the game to tell you how to type, or in this case, how to play the drums.
With the drums, you can go into the Recording Studio in GH 4, choose 1 of about 12 drum sound sets, and then play whatever you want for as long as you want (or, supposedly, you can hook the drums up to a computer through a midi cable and then use your own drum sounds - I haven't tried this, yet). I like to open up Reaktor, start up a synth loop, and then improvise some beats. That's much more fun and satisfying than sitting there squinting at my monitor, drawing beats with a mouse.
I can understand why some people might think the guitar playing is a waste of time or whatever (though the main reason why they think that is that they are joyless old men), but, with the drums, you're actually learning to play a real instrument.

Thanks for re-instilling my faith in GH. :)
Yeah, being my forgetful old self I forgot to mention that GH (not Rock Band, might I add) has such opportunities.
I was gonna say that, too- I am always away that that peeps on this board, though I think they are sound fellas and all, may be a bit more cynical towards stuff than others.
SO have you got GH 5? I was gonna buy it, cos I saw it for £30, which is really cheap for such a new game, but I didn't in the end. Now it's gone... :(

a friend of mine had this so i bought legends of rock (#3) for 40€ because it was great to play classic rock, i played the other games at friends´ and was quite disappointed by the song selection. legends is the only decent game of those imo. when i finished it after a coule of days, it was still fun to
play a few times with or against the buddies. now its lying in the corner aswell with my other games. i bought a keyboard and got a learning software now, mastering a real instrument is quite difficult :)

Never played them, don't see the attraction, have no intention of playing.
There is a certain "Alan Partridge" aspect to this, pretending to rock out with a plastic guitar.

Didn't want to play this game and it didn't appeal to me whatsoever. However, after a few friends called round with a copy, (and a few smokes later) i played it and loved it and went out and bought a copy the next day.

I don't own GH 5, but I have spent a bit of time playing it, and I didn't think the songs were as fun as those on World Tour, overall, which was unexpected, since I actually like more of the songs on GH 5.
Anyway, you needn't be in a hurry to buy it, because, by the time you're tired of World Tour, the price of GH 5 will probably have dropped.
