vst was invented in 96 so i guess it's a bit impossible.

Perhaps he was talking about pre vst computer synthesizers
like reality, or virtual analogues like the korg prophecy?

still i think it's pure analogue

I can hear the korg prophecy in quite a few of his mid to
late 90s tracks. I think the melodies from mars were
recorded before that period.

Hangable Auto Bulb is an all time fav. In fact me and my
mates had a serious laugh yesterday over children talking.
To me the drums on that EP sound like DSP . Maybe a mixture
of trackers probably on a PC but could also be an amiga or
something and max/msp which opcode ran back then. VA's had
just hit the market. Think the nord lead was released that
year but i kinda doubt afx had one. I bet autechre did
though. The synth lines on there sound analogish to me. If I
had to guess an oberheim matrix 1000 or roland jupiter 6.
Had some effects going to. Something outboard like a boss
rdd-10. Dunno?

Doesn't really matter, what he was using. But to answer
you, I think he was using Macintosh PowerBooks and Power
Macs, Pro Tools, and Max/MSP and Supercollider. He also was
using heavily a Yamaha DX7, Moog Memorymoog, EMS Synthi
VCS3. Doesn't matter though, it's all about the ideas you
are putting forth. you try and copy the aphex sound and you
will just look like a pathetic copycat. it's all about the
new...
