Anyone remember this?
Originally broadcast in 1992 on the BBC, it effectively made the entire nation shit themselves. The common analogy is with War of The Worlds due to the panic it caused and I realised today that the DVD is out!
Classic stuff. My sister couldn't sleep for days afterwards.

Yep. It got a 10 year ban after release in 1992 and was re-released on DVD in 2002. I completely forgot all about it until I stumbled upon it once more whilst reading about that new film, Paranormal Activity.
They don't make them like this anymore.

Like a hypnotist, you are willingly drawn in. The most frightening thing is that they'll never be anything like this on TV again. I love the bit towards the end when it weirds out and the expert says "We've created the biggest seance"... that is creepy.

I remember it very vividly.
Mid-panic, the figure by the curtain as the camera panned past... quickly panned back as though the cameraman saw something... and the figure was gone.
I think what does it is the light hearted live tv approach at the start.
Brilliant.

Looking back in retrospect, it was pretty fucking daring, especially for the BBC. I doubt there will be anything in a similar ilk broadcast again on UKTV, even though we've all been completely desensitised over the years. It wasn't just cheap scares and bad makeup - it affected people much deeper, especially since the people on the show mainly did childrens programming, so we trusted them more.
Yes the acting was awful in places and I never did understand why the girl had a commodore 64 under her TV in 1992, but the fact we remember it so vividly after 17 years is a testament to how great it was.
Ghostwatch motherfuckers.

Here's a torrent if anyone is interested in watching it again. It's going slow but it's the only seeded torrent I can find for it. It's chugging along (86.7% downloaded), so you might have to wait a few days while it downloads but it should eventually finish.
