ive been part of this community for only a month or so, and
within that short period of time, ive witnessed its quality
of topics drastically decline... i think it's sad. dont
get me wrong, i still love coming here, but it takes me a
lot more time to filter which threads are interesting
music-wise and which one are pointless.

anyone agree? or am i the only one who thinks that way?
what can be done? what about imposing a maximum of 1 new
topic per user per day or something like that? though i do
realize it wouldnt exactly be fair...

any thoughts/suggestions?

I think points should be deducted for stupid topics. All
irrelevant topics/posts must be filtered out and the guilty
parties punished harshly! It's an aphex twin messageboard,
let's at least keep it to music subjects, folks!

ya but i love threads about the weird www sites, and the
jokes, and thequotes

no more of these "this or that" threads its stuipid.

and threads for people to list their top 5 movies, songs,
foods....whatever.
thats been done wayyyyyy too many times. a lot of the
threads are getting too repatitious

People say I have nice clothes! I walk down the street and
everyone says, "Hey, dude, nice threads!"

But seriously, guys, let's think about others before we
post. Let's think about what others will think when they
read our post. Let's try to imagine what they would say.
Let's not post things just for the sake of reading something
we've posted. Let us look now to a new future. A future of
better threads awaits us!

I love stupid topics... to an extent. But there IS too many
of them. There has to be a line drawn somewhere...

I am a huge proponent of defacing violator's icons and using
them as our own. For instance, if Ophecks there were to
post crazy things, I'd draw a mustache and some springy eyes
on his picture and use it as my own! That would learn him,
by Jove!

i dont really mind the occasional stupid topic, but it gets
a bit "irritating" when almost half of the topics are
"stupid".

Simple solution. If u dont like the thread then dont read
it. Also if all we did was talk about aphex twin then i
think this mb would be a little dry. If u wanted to have
people get - points for stupid topics that would require a
person to administer and frankly i dont think anybody is
willing to do the job.

whinge whinge..I think of a community board as an alive and
organic conversational expereince..and all of this emphasis
on stupid topics is a bit ridiculous..unless it is direct
attacks on a member or out and out rude and offensive
stuff...stupid topics can be live blood of this
experience..I have read some of the best and most
enlightening stuff here on these so called stupid topics
where everybody just cuts loose and be themselves..I have
gotten to know a lot more about the personal quirks of the
members on these occassions...after all we are here on the
Aphex Twin message board and nobody indulges in the bizzare,
ridiculous and the absurd more than RDJ himself...

offline greengod from San Antonio (United States) on 2002-04-03 05:57 [#00155792]

I think its easier for people to talk about stupid things
just in general. I know in everyday life thats how most
people are.But on the other side of the coin its not good to
intellectulize everything. Everyone needs a vice even if its
making dumb jokes. Hey if it makes you happy, as long as you
are not hurting anyone, screw everyone else. Honestly would
Aphex twin have ever gained any kind of popularity if he
wanted every element in his music to sound nice and clean
like early depeche mode for the sole reason of not breaking
the status quo. I don't think so. So if you dont like the
topic dont participate or contribute one you like. But
limiting people to one a day is like censoring..even the
idiots with the dessert topics should have a voice. Even if
some people might think its a stupid one. I think it would
be a terrible paradox to encourage censorship and conformity
on an Aphex twin website or any website for that matter.

Dude seriously do i have to spell it out for you:
1. I think the dessert topic is stupid
2. I DO NOT support censorship

I dont understand your hostility towards me when we seem to
agree that censorship sucks. Just because I think a topic is
stupid doesnt mean I dont think it should be available for
all to enjoy, laugh at, or indulge in. take some ritalin or
something.

this thread seems pretty stupid and pointless
an oxy-moron, a paradox, a juxtaposition of opposites
but seriously folx
this is a message board that brings people together who like
some wierdo;s music which would prolly make us all weirdos
ourselves
so why not delve into this or that?
yeah
they;re pooty, i mean stupid or whatever
but hey
spending hourz on a message board is pointless
spending hours on the net is pointless
in fact
i;d say that the net and this message board both don;t exist
and is only the construct of mass dillusion

I'm not trying to bash you green, i just think it's funny
that you would say that you think censorship sucks, but
would like to be able to pick and choose what topics are
relavent and not, and this has nothing to do with
existentialism, so i'm not sure where that came
from.....that pertains to the purpose of life not censorship

hmmm...Zen i see your point about my addressing the
relevance of the topics but I am sure others judge the
relevance of some of the topic otherwise they would not
contribute new topics...maybe i am just the only idiot that
blurted out hey that is stupid. But the last statement you
made is pure existentialism:
i;d say that the net and this message board both don;t
exist and is only the construct of mass dillusion

best way to stop "message board deterioration" is to not
contribute to it, meaning not making stupid topics and not
continuing stupid discussions.

Zen I'm kidding, I think that thread represents the lowest
this MB has ever sunk. The dessert thread was so asinine I
nearly spat up the milk I was drinking when I spotted it.

I have no problem with your opinions, i just don't see how
it is fair to dictate what stays and what goes......it's
fine not to like someone's post, just don't reply to it, and
yes you can relate existentialism to the mb, but that
doesn't mean it has anything to do with what we were talking
about; censorship on the mb

Are you talking to me Zen? If so you'll note I never said
anything should "stay" or "go". I was merely agreeing with
cortex that the number of posts that would insult the
intelligence of a can of tomatoes has increased
exponentially in this last week.

I dont think anyone wants censorship on the MB, but by the
same token I think an effort should be made to stave off
ones curiosity as to whether the other forum members wear
boxers or briefs.

I see this board as bunch of dudes in a club/ cafe, mingling
with the crowd, sipping drinks, listening to their fave
music, and having conversations with whom they like, when
they like, on topics they like.. If you don't like it, you
find another conversation or start you own. Everyone
listenes here (unlike in the club) and if people are
interested, they will participate. My only complaint is that
people start new threads without ever trying to find out
wheteher similar topics ever existed... But aside from that,
it's excellent.

Besides, speaking about other than musical topics is what
keeps me coming back here. And if you take a look at most
other boards on the web, you'll see that this is by far
(among) the best.
