Do you think in the next decade there will be no main stream
media with all information accessed via mobile Internet
technology with trillions of channels to choose, such as
the car radio listening streamed mp3's to sitting on the
train reading science articles and watching youtube?

i think that technology will regress a step or two. look at
the internet for example, its a little too good to be true.
for further information look up 'net neutrality'

also of note is that we have more ways than ever to
communicate with each other, yet it would appear we have
much less to say. i cannot think of anything more banal. i
think social networking will die out. i think traditional
radio will live on. but its all guess work. who knows freqy,
what are your thoughts?

if it happens we will be joined together in tiny groups
relative to say: the bbc audiences of the 80's 90's ...into
electronic groups .stamp groups, , kniting groups,
swimming groups seperated but not joined as a whole ! just
as the government want. control by seperating us out , make
us think we have so much , so much power to communicate. but
take away the biggest power for change communication to a
whole.

nah there's no way back with the tech. it's being hyped hard
right now that's true, but the next step will be that
internets will be more tightly integrated into daily life
and we don't think so much about the tech anymore, instead
just use it. it's like when cars first came out... omg cars!
CARS! without horses! now it's the normal thing and we just
use them. same goes for industrial/scientific tech, think
tractors, trucks etc. it wouldn't work without these
machines anymore, hospitals don't work without internet
anymore blabla funnest iPod ever bla

this was a reply to Guybrush btw. i also don't think we have
less to say, on the contrary, it's just you get to hear the
voices of the plebs now too. filtering is key i suppose?

regarding the original question, yes *imo* the mainstream we
grew up with is dying or dead already, some James Cameron's
"Avatar" will never reach as many young people as Back To
The Future did etc. We're living much more atomized today
than 20 years ago, atomized interests and all... i
personally don't see a way of how one person could become a
genuine superstar nowadays. Okay there are memes around
(Twitter Iran hysteria, stuff like Guitar Hero, iPod nano 5G
omg video camera) but these are very short lived usually or
feed to special interests, seriously can anyone name a way
to levitate a person to Michael Jackson status nowadays?

So yeah, personalized/filtered marketing is what will evolve
dramatically in the next few years i think. see last.fm and
related concepts, also social networks. how would these die
out? they're becoming next to natural ways to spread/consume
information as we type. Personalized filtering, so you don't
have to type google queries anymore... scary innit?

1985

backto

i think more homework maybe required before you cast
judgement

more people in the world now and more choice means more
social groups and less understanding of each other (another
thread)
on the flipside more people mean more spread out choice, so
avatar's final grossing may even be equalled to that of 1985
and the back to the future release stats
just an example

even though i'm in a minority who doesnt go to the cinema

I agree partly with the unabomber's philosophy (not the
violence), but the actual state of the world and where it's
heading.

The only way the unabomber could get his point accross was
with violence and this is wrong, however this man was highly
intelligent and raised many serious questions and concerns
about our future, mainly being technology, how its effecting
our lives and where it may lead us. We reply heavily on
technology and without it we are crippled. We have done this
to ourselves and now we are like babies that need looking
after by machines

I am agaisnt any kind of terrism or violence, but I do think
that we are heading into something seriouly messed up in
regards to technology. Robots being the main concern,
eventualy robots will do everything for you and even have
their own minds and we will eventually be made redundant
leaving the robots to inhabit the world and god knows what
they will decide to do. Robots that are made in our image

o.k but not in our lifetime
and when has it ever been a care of man to protect future
generations...... and especially in a time of high
greed....? every generation that passes seems to have to
sort out shit from previous decades, only technology seems
to be safe in research funded by the wealthy and fuelled by
war, and what do they have to gain if the funders are
dead????
the unabomber was most likely innocent

i think we should slow down our expectations of the future
unless some huge advanced in technology can take us
elsewhere......?
maybe its the human race's only hope?

thanks i ask cause i know many on here seem to have deep
insight into many subjects and i thought it might be
interesting to see what you thought.

after i see that mobile projector phone ( projecting large
displays on walls) or onto blank newspapers! lol:P ....It
was making me think if people don't need to buy a magazine
or newspapers from the shops anymore and they have high
bandwidth internet accesss on their phone/projectors why
would anyone want to buy a copy of a newspaper ? Or watch
the crap on sky tv? Every year there are millions more
pages areas to visit on de webs. with so many areas less and
less will watch the big channels...one day everyone with
their own channel like tom green lol :P and just 3 viewers
average per day. lol:P
