OK. i've not been doing much music at all, but i've spent
all my time on this track for the past few months.

this

Its not totally finished yet. its kind of a long,
self-indulgent number. but i'm really proud of most of it,
so tellme what you think. and how it can be better. I have
already been told to turn down the initial amen, and also
turn down the arpeggiated shit later on.

Anyway, please give a listen and tell me what you think.
thanks

It sounds like you are "showing your range" rather than
making music. Instead of ticking all the boxes with your
sample packs, try give a bit of your self in there.

Pretty nice. I think the melody lines are really smooth and
kind of reminiscent of black dog. The drums are cool, but I
think you have too much hi-frequencies going on, and not
nearly enough low ends. Your kicks are flat and all the
rest of the drums blend together.
Despite everyone else hating on amen, I do really like them,
but it really doesn't feel like they fit with the rest of
the track...there isn't really anything driving them. With
amen drums, they are so fat and heavy sounding, it just
doesn't sit well with the rest of the mix. I also think the
transitions could be way more imaginative...they just kind
of start and pick up with a new idea.

Besides that, its really nice. I don't feel like it's ever
dragging on or becoming too repetitive and the actual
melodic structure is really chill.

Thanks guys i totally except the criticisms. I have been a
straight up hip-hop producer since i was 16, and i've always
flirted with electronica and stuff, but never been great at
it. To be honest, i did want to just use an amen for the
first time, and though, oh i'll shove some in here. haha,
still i'm happy with the melodies and shit.

I really need to start reading over my posts, and making
sure they actually make sense before submitting ^^^

melody and vibe are decent

I admit to a bias here-- I am an Amen hater, all the way. It
was never a good loop. It's not you; it's me. With it being
so easy to program one's own drums I just can't see why
anyone uses that cheese-ass break anymore.

Anyway keep workin the tunes, and post some more stuff ;p

i like the pads and the amen in no way bothers me. but
jivver is right cos it feels like you are playing with
sample packs and trying to include them all in one song. i
like this tho
