please post tips for pressing your own vinyl.

I want to press between 100 and 300 (preferably 100) 12
inchers

I live in the United Kingdom of England

I have 600 pounds to spend on the project.

I won't be selling any, they are all promotional.

thank you.

A friend is doing the pre-mastering and another is doing the
cover design, so the 600 pounds is entirely for the plastic
and paper

You're a rich man. I would spend all my money on a holiday
in stead off plastics. Good luck with your promotion!

I don't like going on holidays.

I'm not rich, just not poor.

thanks though!

brisk will probably come in and drop some knowledge soon,
and there's a high risk he's going to advice against it, but
then again you could drop money on far worse

Mobineko is cheap for manufacturing. I haven't used
them, but I know a few who have and they seemed happy. They
can send you a free sample pack via their website too.

Total Vinyl UK is cheap too. They're not the best quality
and turnaround can be slow, but they do the job.

With vinyl, you literally get what you pay for. Good
mastering is a MUST and make sure you get the laquers cut by
someone who is tried and tested for your particular field of
music. If the guy doing the "pre mastering" isn't cutting
the laquer for you too, then just skip him completely. Once
you're happy with the laquers, send them to one of the
manufacturers and you'll be sorted.

Since you're not actually selling any records, most of the
stress and hassle that comes with vinyl is bypassed!
Distributors and the fact noone actually buys vinyl anymore
are the main problems :)

Good luck.

thanks guys!

I have researched/googled but there are so many options -
it's nice to hear real people who have used the services.

The vinyl is entirely for promotion. The only thing for sale
will be mp3s.

However, selling the music is far down the list of
objectives, the main one being to get radio play/ magazine
coverage.

thanks again, i'll check out all the companies listed.

vanilla I

Request a sample pack from Mobineko if you are interested, I
got one and wasn't 100% impressed, though they are cheap (I
think they get their stuff pressed in China? could be wrong
though)

Best be careful who you send your vinyl promos too - most
magazines won't even have a record player in their office,
and if they do can't be bothered to dig it out when they're
getting 100 album requests per day on MP3.

Agreed. Go green and send promoters/magazines/whatever MP3's
instead. Saves time, money and the environment.

Even CD promos are becoming redundant imo.

Funnily enough, CD promos are not becoming redundant. A
physical copy is better as its memorable - whereas a bunch
of MP3s hidden in 100 emails isn't. Some labels give you a
login code to their website to grab the latest releases, but
eventually they just get forgotten about. You have let
people know you exist, continually!

of course if you promo the vinyl to your dj friends that is
a no brainer.

stick'em in independent record shops and promo that way,
don't bother with art work man, just get'em out on white
label
