please do now a list of all movies you have watched that
were not as good as District 9 in a long time, in order to
make your statement more useful.

9/10 the only thing that didn't make it a perfect 10 was
some poor production choices (they grabbed that stupid
generic Persian music straight from a samples CD, didn't
they).

It was a very disturbing and beautifully-shot movie.
Everyone should see it.

film would not live up to its potential, us in the UK have
to wait another month to see this, annoying but hopefully
worth the wait!

Great movie. Only dissapointment was how halfway through it
seemed to go from a series of loosely connected events to an
alien/human buddy movie. I would have liked it more if they
had continued without focusing on a couple characters.

Otherwise it was v/good. One of the best films this year.
Probably the best sci-fi I have seen in a long time.

watched the first half last night
was a bit disappointed with the acting and the saffas accent
is fairly annoying, the dialog is o.k though just not
delivered that well.
i also felt its a bit isolated to just Johannesburg, (i know
thats the point) but you never really find out how the rest
of the world is observing these aliens.
i may change my mind after watching the second half and
maybe my reviews premature but thats the way i do it.
watch the short Alive in Joburg first, as i did, cos it'll
prepare you for the style and pace of the first half.
to be continued

"watched the first half last night"

strange way to watch a film, your cinema showing it in two
parts or something.

This movie wouldve been better if everyone wasnt talking in
that goofy ass south african accent.

They should have made them talk in a proper american accent.

last night i watched the whole movie from the beginning to
the end.
i think its quite decent.
Blomkamp has created quite a realistic alternative alien
movie that delivers in effects and has quite an emotional
underlying story line.
the second half of the film is easier to watch for fans of
hollywood style movies
i like the inclusion of the term "fucking prawns" its seems
the filmakers were almost taking the piss out of their very
design of the aliens.
its also quite rough and brutal, especially when christopher
steps into the suit.
if i was 18 i'd love it
but i'm not, so i just like it.
i 'm giving it 3.5 burgers out of 5 with a side order of cat
food.

pretty retarded movie, but entertaining I guess.

it's catering to the demographic though. If you want to see
just one more explosion rather than a line of dialogue
explaining how the fuck they got all these guns and mech
suits down to the surface in the first place
you'll
prolly love it. I also didnt care about the protagonist or
anything that happend to him.

It could have been worse though.

I was thinking the same thing. I also would have liked an
explanation as to why the aliens and humans can understand
each other. It would have been nice if either the main
character spoke the alien language verbally, or if the main
alien spoke English verbally, rather than this unspoken
auto-translation where everyone mysteriously knows what the
other is saying. It's like Han talking to Chewie, except I
don't take star wars as seriously as I believe this film was
meant to be taken. I'm really not a fan of these
"documentary" films such as cloverfield, et al, that replace
substance with "eye witness footage," something that no one
should be excited about because it isn't real
. Also, the MNU troops were expert shots (helicopter
snipers) until it's inconvenient for the protagonist, in
which case they become bumbling mall-cop rejects who can't
shoot the ground they're standing on. When are filmmakers
going to stop doing sloppy shit like that and give us a film
that makes sense from start to finish?

That's stupid. How can you compare such different films?
Realistically, you can't say that one film is better than
other. It is subjective, cos it's based on the emotions
evoked in the invidividual. based on their personality and
life experiences.

No?
