So, on top of being diagnosed with psychosis, bi-polar,
schizo effective, and most recently asperger's syndrome
(which was mistaken for ADHD when I was 8) over the past
several years, I was diagnosed with 2 new disorders
yesterday. Seasonal Affective Disorder and Reverse Seasonal
Affective Disorder, meaning that not only do I get mentally
unstable in the winter, but also in the summer. I really
hope that's the end of the list, because they're still
trying to treat all my other disorders, and haven't been
able to do so for the past 7 years. Recently, my newest
medication has stopped working altogether (clonazepam), and
as for anti-psychotics, well, those never worked. They just
made shit worse.

So, to those of you who may have mental disorders, what are
your thoughts on pharmacology in general? I see it as a pile
of dinosaur shit, not yet refined and studied enough to be
permanently effective on patients. I feel like a guinea pig
being tested on with all new medications they toss out
yearly. I've been on several medications that now have
lawsuits against them. How is that suppose to make me feel?
My brain is being tested on with shit that could be
destroying it. Just needed to get this off my chest.. err
mind.

some people would benefit from being in the scientology
fun-fare. at least they're opposed to all that
pharmacological crap.

seasonal affective disorder AND reversed seasonal affective
disorder?
1 + -1 = 0 !!

"seasonal affective disorder AND reversed seasonal
affective
disorder?"

'SAD' occurs during the winter, aka 'winter blues'.
'RSAD' occurs in the summer.

So nah, doesn't cancel either out. Funny joke tho. :)

seriously though. sounds like you're taking a lot of
medication. what would happen if you'd stop taking any as of
right now?

I have to ween myself off them, you can't just go off them
instantly. I'd likely suffer a relapse.

I can say that my shrink has told me that diagnosis aren't
all that important.
In fact many psychiatric patients have many different
symptoms from many different illnesses.
Remember that all these words are just made up to describe
certain moods and mental states, they can all blend and mix,
and they usually do.

My point is it may sound scary with all those words, but it
doesn't have to be.

Anyway i feel kind of the same way. Doctors dont know shit
in many ways. Im quitting my meds and im gonna attempt to
see what happens.
the meds have changed me but they havent fixed me, so i
dunno what to sya.

I took clonazepam for a while, hmm, a few years, to combat
anxiety but I found it just numbed me and knocked me out.
But I liked it, to be fair. When I tried to stop taking it I
felt VERY BAD, and had to ween myself off VERY SLOWLY. I
wouldn't touch it now. I got over agoraphobia and constant
panic attacks by shifting my thinking, though it took years
(though that might be because I'm an idiot). I don't know,
medication seems to be good at knocking you out or
temporarily giving you respite but in the long run... one
feels one shouldn't have to rely on them. I AM NOT A DOCTOR
NOR EVEN A RATIONAL HUMAN BEING

Not to be get personal or anything, but do you get a lot of
thoughts like, life isn't even worth living? or I know some
crazy shit is going on under the scenes! Or just out of it
in general? Feel like you notice stuff that others don't
seem to care about?

Just asking because I was diagnosed with shit and i refused
medication when i was at a hospital. I mean i HAD to take
like one helping for a night i was there, but overall i
think they're really useless. I mean if you've got shit
going around in your mind that's not getting sorted out,
you're gonna have problems, it's more than just a chemical
reaciton. It's the thought process. I would reccomend self
or assisted behavioral cognitive reassessment therapy.
Sometimes you need to let go of shit, and just realize that
life is fucked up whether you're mentally out of it or not.

"I feel like a guinea pig

well i guess in essence you are.. :-/ i know that won't make
you feel any better...but how else do you propose that they
do it? that wasn't meant to sound flippant btw.. i feel for
you, and mental health issues aren't good, but pills and
medication won't get to the root of the problem.

on a slight tangent, you may find THIS an
interesting read.

a thought process is sometimes created because of chemical
'imbalances' meaning if you take medication the thought
process might change or go away.

i have experienced this myself. when i was paranoid and
angry it may seem like it was built into me and not curable
with meds, but i am now free of all that stuff, all because
of medication and some therapy..

its the same with psychosis, depression and anxiety..
sometimes your whole thought process can change when the
medication tones down your brain..

if i go to your doctor i'd be probably locked away in a
tower

jokes apart, i'm sorry to read. taking chemicals cos you're
mentally instable depending on the season sound really alien
to me. it sounds reasonable to be mentally instable, but
maybe the doctors in you area underestimate the power of the
weather, if i have to express myself with gentle manners. i
think you're doing better by yourself getting this of your
mind.

Relax my friend. At least you're being treated. Also, a lot
of the disorders you mention go together.

ive been studying phamacology this year, i have a pretty
sound understanding of the function of psych meds.

of course, the medication affects you on a biological level,
and as with all drugs, its a process of trial and error. the
rationale is that too much of this or not enough of that
neurotransmitter can cause abnormal manic or depressive
episodes. the effects of neurotransmitter imbalances can be
projected throughout the body.

for that reason i view psych meds as being functional in
symptom management, and not a means to a cure. it would be
great to identify the cause of neurotransmitter imbalances
and direct some treatment there.

I can't give much advice, as I have no knowledge or
experience on this subject.

However, I think you are in a good place being on this
messageboard, as a lot of the users here have had similar
experiences.

I wish you luck in getting out of this dark place you are
in. *manhug*

Those are all just made up illnesses so they can sell people
placebo tic-tacs.

shit fuck.

jus remember your mind and you are seperate.... so i read
here.

i cant comprehend serious mental dissorder

i went through a patch of pretty hardcore depression and a
few moments of anxiety but all has lifted.

follow your heart, be true to yourself, fuck what 'society'
says you should be. failing that, sit do nothing and let the
moment pass.

cool runnings.
