Reaktor 5 - patches ?

Hello,

I'm thinking of buying NI Komplete (currently on sale).
Mainly for Reaktor 5, but also for some of the other
programs included. Anyway, seeing Reaktor is a pretty steep
learning curve, I was wondering whether you guys know some
good patches that could point me in the right direction.
Synths, samplers, effects, drum machines ... etc. I'm
interested in general sound generation/manipulation, but
maybe with a special interest in modelling analogue synths?
Any links you guys might have would be much appreciated.
Thank you for your attention, bye.

I think you have the wrong forum. For music related
discussion, try watmm.

There's a whole bunch of synths uploaded by a guy called
Jonathan Style in the user library that are a good starting
point for analog synth building. He tends to build with Core
oscillators and filters rather than primary modules, so his
stuff sounds nicer. The older primary level oscs and filters
have a colder sound IMHO.

@ fleetmouse

Many thanks! I like warm fuzzies.

You know, I raised the money to buy this and then decided to
put it towards a new computer instead...

Its an awesome deal, and a good idea if you use their stuff
a lot. I just find I like the sound of other stuff a lot
more lately.

i recently started to work with pure data and compared to
reaktor the sound is much more raw and digital - which i
personally prefer. for example a simple pulse osc has much
more power in pure data.

@ Taxidermist

Yes, very good deal! A bit overwhelming actually. I am
familiar with FM7, Absynth 4 and have played around with
Battery and Kontakt. But just keen to get into the nitty
gritty with Reaktor ;)

@ Sadist

Stupid question, but what do you use to work with pure data?

I'm not crazy about the presets in a lot of NI stuff. Some
of the soundpacks for Kore are awesome, though, because they
don't have the NI "house style". But really, Reaktor can
sound like anything.

And to get Kontakt in the deal - my god, I'd be on this
instantly if I didn't already have both.

Postle: Pure Data is an open source program by the same guy
who originally created Max. It's not as polished as Max MSP
but you can't beat the price.

... as in "pure data". Thanks! :)

Yeah, Reaktor is great. I would just rather see some smaller
companies getting my money before NI.

Plus, my music computer is shit. I wouldn't be able to do
much with my current one. I am probably going to buy reaktor
further down the line if I don't get sucked into max when
they release their ableton integration.

Kontakt I could care less about. Its a bit too bloated for a
sampler.

reaktor is pretty cool, the sound quality on some of the
synths is amazing, i like messing around with the hybred
synths, Kaledonien is good and green matrix, they are the
classics. iv'e been using zebra allot more recently, it's
additive, subtractive synthesis . really nice analogue sound
. i would reccomend this to anyone wanting to learn about
synthesis, because the interface is really easy to use, but
it's also a powerful modular synth

i use both reaktor and zebra, but i seem to always o[pen
zebra first, because i find it easier to work with

Do you have to have a registered NI product in order to
download the patches from NI's site?

Yes.

You can find a bunch in p2p tho.

yes - but you could search on ebay for a cheap copy of
reaktor session (it's a downstripped version of reaktor 4
where you can only launch ensembles but not edit them) and
then register on the ni site and download reaktor patches.
it could work with electronic instruments 2 also - search
for it on the net. i won a copy of reaktor session ages ago
in a remix contest and since then i can access the reaktor
user content with no problem at all.

imho reaktor 5 is really worth every penny. you can clearly
see the difference between it and those free software's like
pure data, synthmaker or whatever. it's rock solid, works
with almost every host and it has the best options for
creating a nice and clear layout for your patch.

for a real show of it's sound i would recommend downloading
the ensemble "synth in a case" which is a recreation of of a
synthi-aks and probably one of the best sounding ensembles
ever.

Might have to invest in a non-Komplete version of Reaktor
5:

"Thank you for your order of Komplete 5. Unfortunately
this edition of software is no longer available and both our
stores have run out of stock. Your order has not been
processed and your card has not been charged. Sorry for any
inconvenience.
Regards,
Bella"

reaktor is actually really good for granular stuff and live
sampling. Check out the user library. Tim Exile has an
entire live sampling situation built up that he makes all of
his tracks on, unfortunately its not available anywhere.
