quite pathetic beings, aren't we?

if i had a button right in front of me now which would
instantly destroy planet earth, i'd push it without any
hesitation.

if you had that button i hope you would indeed press it
without hesitation.

people think this is terrible and wrong but it is in fact
the only moral thing to do.

and no, it doesn't matter.

the first person to say 'so kill yourself if you hate the
world so much' is missing the point entirely. if i were
entirely deluded i'd say please don't push it until after
wonderment 2.0 but i'd be kidding myself.

Please don't push the button until after wonderment 2.0.
Also, i love everyone and life in general. What a wonderful
world we live in KILL IT KILL IT KILL IT DO IT NOWWW

you are painfully wrong and it shows how insecure you really
are. you haven't thought this through at all.

do you think this is about right and wrong, happiness and
misery, life and death etc?

I think its about every single humans instinctive desire to
survive . So yeah, its about life and death.

You're insecure, because it obviously makes you feel weak
and uncool to have this most natural of human needs.

You quasi-nihilist.

when you have a button that instantly ends everything you
have ever known, survival is an utterly meaningless concept.
nothing survives, just like how it will be in billions of
years when the sun is out of gas.

offline md_geist from Man's-Chest-Yeh? on 2009-07-01 07:54 [#02302168]

Yes, but in this context. The button will wipe out
everything. Ok...fine. Who cares. But, you are included in
that. And that's all that fundamentally matters to you. So
you won't press it.

the only thing that sucks about it is that people won't be
able to thank me after i do, in fact, press it.

all that matters to me is being famous and i'm not getting
there so i have nothing to lose. you're out of luck when the

Thanks dude! The truth is, I try to stay as positive as I
can, because I had a bit of a nervous breakdown about a year
ago. I then read A LOT. I also had some kind of cognative
therapy. I now feel so much better.

My advice on feeling better if depressed/anxious? I'm no
psychologist but here goes...

1. Immerse yourself as much as you can in your hobbies, and
things that you find beautiful in life. Music, online things
etc. You owe nobody else nothing, so just get lost in what
you love.

2. Do not watch the news or keep up with current affairs. A
culture of fearmongering and keeping people occupied with
nasty bullshit to take their minds off of the things that
really matter, has been going on for so long. Worry only
when it comes to your doorstep, but do not be paranoid and
anticipate it. Literally, when it affects you, or one you
love.

3. Similar to point 2, I think if you think deeply about the
state of the world, you just need to let go. This means
accepting that whether human nature does have a cold evil
streak, or whether the world is run by half-lizard aliens,
they have done their damage, and there is no going back. We
have to accept the greedy fuckers that came before us ruined
this world in many ways, but we just have salvage the best
of it and get on with our lives. You're not going to start a
revolution tomorrow. So do your little piece to help make
the world a better place, but do not get obsessed with the
injustice and corruption of the powers that be. They got
there first, they won. We now just have to rise above it.

4. Know, that generally, with few exceptions, even the most
troubled of people, have just been neglected from love. They
are victims of the people discussed in the above point.
Things are never going to be perfect, but trying to
understand how people's environments make people the way
they are, yet also realizing that when the door's closed and
they're alone, everyone with a half-decent education will be
introspective and feel guilty about their own unjust
behaviour.

Humans will be dead long before the sun burns out. In 2880 a
1 kilometre sized object is scheduled to hit the earth, the
one that wiped out the dinosaurs 65m years ago was 5
kilometres.

Whether 2880 is accurate or not, it's a fact that within the
next 60000 years at least one big heavy multi-nuclear bomb
powered asteroid will totally devastate some part of the
planet.

I don;t know. I dont wanna be preachy, but these are just my
opinions, and more importantly, how I have learnt to enjoy
life fully again.

I can still be negative sometimes. But the important thing
is when you go on a negative rant, or train of thought, with
no humour in it whatsoever, you have to stop yourself and
ask 'Is there another, more positive way I can think of this
situation'. You will then slowly build new habits and do
this automatically.

I have definitely noticed the change in me. But then, one of
my very best friends is so much more intelligent than me,
and he has been depressed for a long time. So...I guess it
doesn't work for everyone.

All specualtion. And you'll be dead then anyway...why bother
predicting such things?

Not criticizing, but it just baffles me. Do you think this
gives you an upper hand over someone who has an equally
ridiculous point about the sun burning out. How do you know
we're not all in the matrix, and there is no such thing as
space? What a load of bullshit.

It's not speculation. This planet has been hit by dozens of
humungous, shattering asteroids since the dinosaurs were
wiped out. It's an absolute certainty to happen again, every
60000 years it's estimated.

i would recommend you read 'a short history of nearly
everything' and if you already have, to revisit the chapter
on the outbursts of volcanoes, as well as meteor impacts for
that matter.

estimated means fuck all. it could be a billion years before
a huge meteor impact however unlikely it may seem.
