switching to vinyl

after various annoyances with Apple and their fucking iPod
touch, i shall be selling it and moving over to vinyl.

i do not currently own a record player, so can anyone advise
on a decent one i could get?

there's no way that i'll be able to afford a 1210 or
something like that, but can anyone advise a record deck
that is cheap but good enough to just listen to music with?

no scratching or dj'ing shall be done with these - i can't
mix for shit so i don't really need anything fancy

stanton t60

cheap and looks plasticky but does the job. for better sound
quality just upgrade the cartridge/stylus.

stanton are very very good, techs are still the daddy of

hulk-but not green.

week. Go for the technics if you can.

i shall miss being able to listen to music wherever i am,
but i'm completely done with Apple's bullshit.

and i'd rather put time and effort into getting vinyl rather
than spending an age converting tracks into a lesser quality
format.

If you do not want to go through the hassle of converting
everything, why not just stick to CD. It will save you the
hassle of having to buy a record player and vinyls.
Although, it is not a bad decision in itself, vinyls sound
nice and make you feel special.

because i'm sick of every single Apple product I buy dying
on me through hardware problems that are not my fault.

this will mark the 6th Apple product i've bought that has
died on me. The 5th high-end product too (the first one was
an iBook G3)

don't get me wrong, when their stuff works it's great. but
the problem is either Apple's quality control is complete
shit, or i seem to be cursed.

will hopefully be picking up my 1210 in the next few days :)

maybe i'm missing something here but do you realize there
are other brands that make mp3 players?

are you forced to buy ipods because you are on a mac?

nope, but my library is in AAC format.

like i said above - i'd rather spend some time and effort
into getting stuff on vinyl rather than spending ages
converting my music into a lesser format and then being
annoyed by the interface on whatever music player would be
the alternative.

also, it'll force me not to be so schizophrenic with music -
ie: listen to one track from an album, then switch to
something else from a different album, etc. i've been
wanting to build up my vinyl collection...here's the perfect
excuse

collecting vinyl is great and so is listening to it but i
hope you realize it can't possibly ever replace your old
habit of listening to music whenever.

there is definitely a sense of magic when playing records
and seeing/feeling the physical process of it all, but i
swear it is the extreme opposite of conveniently listening
to all kinds of things you like. The whole process of
switching records, flipping, searching for tracks etc takes
bloody ages and it's unlikely you are going to be spending
hours on this daily. Then there is the fact that vinyl
demands a lot of care. You could damage a record in an
instant and that's just the end of it then. When you don't
vacuum your listening room daily, your vinyl will be a dust
magnet and you can knit sweaters from all the hairs that
stick to the needle after a few hours of listening.

in my experience, mp3 and vinyl, or digital and analog
complement each other very nicely.

j/k, i actually blame myself for not having that kind of
attitude with stuff, i mean to be able to take care of smth
and trading/selling it when needed. i'd like to start
collecting vynils but judjing from this thread it sounds

well i was always brought up to take care of property so i'm
just fortunate that i always try to take care of the things
i have.

this trait should suit well with acculmulating vinyls

i have to say my mother not to stick chewed gum on the

the number one for picking chewed gums and chewing them
further instead. i would also have a beautiful story about

got the turntable today, the stylus light seems to be not
working...is this easy to fix?

also, is the level supposed to be really quiet? i'm having
to push my amp past 80 to get a decent level out of it, and
when i've had a computer/iPod hooked up to it i've never
been able to push my amp past 45-50

i've been told that to connect it to the puter i just need
an interface like the iMic2 (my speakers are
connected to the puter), no need to buy any amp/speakers cos
i don't have to connect it to a traditional stero system :)

I've done it a few times on mine, and it's dead easy.

This is a pictutorial for a 1979 tech, but the innards are
fairly similar, the pop-up mechanism in particular, so its
straightforward

Yeah go with a LED, they last forever, unlike an
incandescent bulb.
Although I would say don't get a blue LED for the cool
factor, get a white one because bright blue ones are
horrible.

i'm not dj'ing, i've just got it for listening, so i'm

though, after taking a wire brush to all the connections to
