Grooves

Computer Music
(the complete guide to making music on your pc & mac)

Anyone else read those?
I think they are great.

lol
I was just asking if someone else here read these
magazines.
They are really great.
Grooves has a shitload of IDM reviews every month plus some
gear reviews.
And every bedroom music maker here MUST read CM ?

I have never bought a magazine that had to do with Music.
Anyone know any good ones to check out?

I usually buy video game, skate and snowboard mags....

i used to read Computer Music, its good for awhile until you
have read about ten, then you realise they recycle the same
articles again and again. I agree though both CM and Groove
are great mags.

xlr: yeah I've heard of that magazine somewhere before and
checked the link.. looks like a really good publication

do you think borders or barnes would put that shit in their
stores if you asked? or is it just individual subscription

i've also been hearing lots of good things about grooves

NICE TOPIC :D

yeah, The Wire is a good read if you like to explore the
outer limits of music...it's like the Anti-SmashHits or
something...Very serious & wordy...but cool...

I've only heard of 5% of the people in the wire, I'm too
unculture to read it

and CM is overpriced but sometimes useful

GROOVES is awesome!!! 150+ IDM reviews and gear reviews and
tons of interviews!!!!
Reading that mag is a great way to discover new IDM music.

I haven't read WIRE , have to check that out.

offline Sido Dyas from a computer on 2002-03-31 15:27 [#00151918]

Yes i use the term IDM.

So shoot me !!!

Don't expect to find The Wire that easy a read...all too
often they seem to devote most of the mag to a study of
Chinese Thrash or something likewise obscure....

But once in a while you do get a killa issue that's worth
all the previous pretentions....

yeah, it covers everything not just IDM or electronic stuff
altho they do get covered quite a lot & there are dedicated
review sections...but basically if you wanna learn about
stuff you won't find anywhere else then The Wire is the
one...it makes Q & MOJO & those sorts of mags look like
comics really...

it's subtitled "Adventures in Modern Music"...which kinda
sums it up quite well...

Do a search for The Wire on Google...I believe there's a
online archive of interviews, pieces etc...you can get some
idea of it's style there...

Sounds like an interesting mag , i will check it out.

Sometimes when the music journalism is really good i read
about stuff i don't even like because it is so well
written.
Sometimes it makes me like artist i didn't like before
because i understand them better.

I'm enjoying reading some of these pieces myself esp from
94-95; that was a great Wire period...pity theres not more
of them online...

Also check out Simon Reynolds site...He used to write a lot
for The Wire and has a lot of his articles online...the
Jungle.DnB ones are outstanding.....

Check the archive at http://members.aol.com/blissout/archive.htm ....

Check the rest of his site as well...damn good writer...
