I really love the work of Bill Laswell and Zakir Hussain
under his Tabla Beat Project recordings... are there other
groups or projects out there that combine the beauty of
North Indian classical raga with IDM production?

OK is a pretty good album for what it is, but it seems a lot
more dance-oriented than listener-oriented. Granted, I've
only heard the first few tracks, so I may be judging too
quickly, but for 1999 the record is actually a pretty
contemporary work!

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

rite i used to have a cd-r that was that was labeled nashai
(i think) all the tuneage on it was like millitant
breaks/dnb ish with all samples of arabic speaches and
stuff, kinda made me think, if the speaches were anti west,
that it could been the sorta choons u'd want on fuckin loud
as u went about jihading type bussiness.

it also had the sorta tabla/sitar eastern type sounds,
anyone any clues as to what it may be?

a solid work would be enduser - bollywood breaks

most of all i think that many records of indian/arab drums
are 'idm' already, i'm diggin some afghan music albums these
days, let me know if you need some names.

I would definitely check out Asa Chang and Junray... very
interesting concept and sound. The frontman of this group is
japanese, but is a self-taught tabla player and there are
some very interesting rhythmic things happening in his
music... really interesting use of syncopation and
retriggering...

I'd also say that Book M by the Secret Chiefs 3 is along the
same lines. I love this band so much I can't tell you, so I
always jump at the chance to reccommend them, but hey: if
the shoe fits...

thanks jules, never heard such a fusion of genres within the
Arab music context. it reminds me some Herbie Hancock acid
jazz/trip hop work of some years ago, it's still very
enjoyable. thanks again.
