Cassette Vs. MP3

this is the real question.

fuck having to be careful with your music, i want to be able
to toss my music collection around, and both cassettes and
ipods can do that.

old cassette wear and tear beats vinyl pops and clicks any
day. that ethereal fade in and out, with slight pitch
bend... delicious.

with mp3s you get cd quality digital sound but hundreds of
times the storage.

discusss.

tape feels lovely. is it the compression n stuff i dunno.
not being able to skip tracks leaves you more appreciative.
ugh im tired

tape was my most used format back when i was growing up, so
it holds a certain kind of reverence. i still have a lot of
tapes and they have a characteristic "sound" which is
totally lost when i heard the studio/cd versions later. even
the vinyl versions don't sound the same.

for some tracks, tape just rules.

still, i'd have mp3 anyday just for convenience. quite
tricky finding a tape deck outside of a carboot sale these
days!

mp3s. cassette players ate way too many tapes. even if you
untangled it and rolled it back up tight with a pencil, the
damage was done and that part of the song will always be
fucked up.

mp3 sounds so fucking crusty. tape sounds like it loves your
ears.

tape

what would this life be with out reliving your hazy rave
memories from a 12 pack cassette box set. and as i said
befor, that feeling of jamming em into the cassette slot.

plus ipods are the devils work. at least use a non generic
mp3s playing device not a slice of hell.

ps hows the non smoking goin amps?

cant wait to get the forthcoming cassette by russell
haswell. i like cassette mainly out of nostalgia + its not
that fragile, you cant skip tracks so it did cure my
impatience so its better for albums. but i dont really miss
it. would love to get a nice cassette player (not that
crappy walkman i keep on using).

on cassette tape.

i had a plastic bag with about 50 home made tapes in which i
used to lug between mates cars. One day one of said mates
pulled a tape out which only had two words written on it.
Rough on one side and smooth on the other. In it went,
smooth side first. Walking on sunshine by katrina and the
waves starts blasting out at full volume. No one except me
is impressed. It gets turned off in around 20 seconds and we
wait a couple of minutes in silence as the tape fast
forwards so we can check out the rough side. A short gurgle
and then walking on sunshine erupts again. In a fit of rage
my mate chucks first the tape and then the whole plastic bag
out of the window and we carry on driving. I dont think ill
ever fully forgive him.

I could maybe understand him chucking the one tape, but the
whole bag? Pretty harshly out of line, that.

technology is highly sophisticated, but psychologically it
comes with a pretty big price too, we live in an age an
anxiety ...of stress...we are the victims of our own
technological strength...we are........ the victims af
shock.......of FUTURE...SHOCK!!

128kbps (and lower) mp3's sometimes sound like my old tapes,
papery sounding tops and distorted bass. It ain't the same
thing of course.

trying in vain to do some work but hey ho, the internets is
far too distracting.

exchanging pleasantries in a public domain. same to anyone
else for that matter.

fair dues.

you can grow a tree, its easier to do from cuttings rather
than seed, go find a willow tree come spring carefully cut a
branch off, try not to tear the bark, then jus jam the stick
in the ground, end u cut in the earth, give it some water
and theres a good chance it will root and grow. voila one
hand made ampi-tree.

the governments had all the fruit and nut trees choped down
and didnt make garden food cultivation part of the national
curriculum so we public had to go to sainsburys and tesco (
same company and extremely government linked)

ive never seen an ugly tree

If you listened to cassetes on walkmans they usually had the
bass expansion switch plus the overal sound was very soft
and muffled, you can have everything if you're get some reel
to reel, very good alternative to vinyl indeed.
