they can be series or movies
the stuff i like:

Samurai Champloo
Samurai X (kenshin)
Spirited away
Paprika
nausicaa
Hellsing
Howls moving castle
castle in the sky

so basicly I want stuff that is designed properly
lots of action, robots, samurais...
a good story.

I've seen allot of the popular anime movies.
I'm looking for some less known stuff.

I don't like anime really but the 2 best anime I've seen in
the last year are Tekkon Kinkreet and Grave of the
Fireflies.

Tekkon Kinkreet is pretty unconventional as anime goes.
kinda crudely drawn characters but still breathtaking
animation. for example there is a really great "time lapse"
of an apple tree growing during the end credits. also the
soundtrack is amazing, done by Plaid. I find the story quite
heartbreaking but a lot of people consider it convoluted and
overly philosophical...?

Warning: Grave of the Fireflies is the saddest anime you'll
ever see and probably one of the saddest war films ever as
well. but its still an amazing film anime or not.

I think that Death Note is the best anime I have ever seen
and there ever has been, as far as I'm concerned. No joke.

It is not your average action packed anime and there's no
boobs, but the script is air fucking tight! It really is
almost unbelievably amazing!

It is about this boy who finds a notebook, which he uses to
kill criminals in order to purge the world of evil. When he
does this, people try to find out who keeps killing people.

It could be called a 'slow-burner', I guess.

It's fucking birlliant though- check out reviews on anime
sites if you don't believe me. I can barely believe it
hasn't been mentioned on here.

To summarise, WATCH DEATH NOTE, IT IS FANTASTIC!

if you loved Spirited Away, try other Hayao Miyazaki films
(Howl's Moving Castle and Princess Mononoke). Both share
that magical adventure quality you're seeking.

obsessed with Death Note, so those would be my two
recommendations.

Hayao Miyazaki's films are the best.

freqy: MCoG was released as a DVD Box Set in 2007.

Last weekend I watched 'Whispers of the Heart', which is a
Miyazaki film from the mid-90s. It was excellent, and is
definitely amongst my favourite Ghibli films, alongside
Ocean Waves, Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies and
Totoro.

Tractern: Have you seen the Death Note movie?

Download a Studio Ghibli torrent (the people that made
spirited away). I really don't like their new stuff as much
as the old, because the old ones are really good. Nausica is
awesome, castle in the sky, and lupin (all somehow involving
the guy that did spirited away) are very good !

Whoops re read your post you have seen most of them !

El Hazard has that adventurist type feel, Ranma 1/2 is
always a great classic aswell.

Serial Experiments Lain - a great mindfuck
Boogiepop Phantom - another great mindfuck
Key the Metal Idol - yet another great mindfuck

I've seen A LOT of anime and I have to mention these three
every time. If you haven't seem then yet, do it. Do it now.

rurouni kenshin too, really cool character's, i'm in love
with kaoru...^_^

i recommend you watch Chobits, it's got a nice atmosphere
about it, not really dark in anyway, but it's addictive and
fun..

well thanks for the recommendations.

i've checked out allot of them on youtube. though if i'm
honest I haven't found anything that has really sparkt my
intrest after watching some youtubes.

I dunno I think allot of them lack a unique visual style.

I've seen tekkon kinkreet a while ago. I really like that.
so does kenshin. and samurai champloo.

definitly my twoo favorite animes

these two had the perfect balance between "seriousness" and
fun. and where visually very pleasing and animated really
well.

I'm watching basilisk right now. it's kinda like kenshin but
without the fun and humor. Don't like it that much. but the
animation is ok.

i remember serial experiments lain from a couple of years
ago.
might pick that up again. ergo proxy looks pretty cool
aswell.

I've heard good stories about Death Note, might check that
out.

grave of the fireflies looks like a nice anime. though I
don't like sad endings...

patlabor looks a wee bit too old skool for my taste.
cool themesong though :)

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann looks ok. but I don't like the
parts where they put allot of attention to the boobs and
all. though I might pick it up. but story wise it's not that
good. a bit too easy.

Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei I didn't like. I watched a youtube
clip and nothing seemed to happen.

FLCL didn't interest me at first. but now that I watch again
it did spark my intrest.

Ranma 1/2 is definitly not the type of anime I like. too
fluffy and pink and very cheap looking.

need to take a good look at el hazard.

hmm maybe there isn't that much really good anime around.

I'm being overly critical maybe...
do keep them coming.

I also liked the old batmen the animated series.
aswell as the more recent "batman of the future" ones.
but halfway through the animation became of lesser quality.

"Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei I didn't like. I watched a youtube
clip and nothing seemed to happen."

Yeah, the show is like that -- nothing much happens, but it
doesn't happen in a good way. I'm not sure if it can
be accurately represented in a youtube clip. The boob focus
in Tengen Toppa is a passing phenomenon, and I found that
the show developed quite well. The story at the start may
seem a bit standard, but it changes at some point. It
remains rather absurd, throughout, though. If you find you
have some time to spare, I would recommend giving it a go.

Also

Battle Angel Alita
009-1 is ok. It doesn't have a particularly compelling
story, but it has some style. Not unique, but nice.
I'm not sure about Kemeko DX yet, but it seems like it could
be ok, at least. May not suit your tastes, though.
Have Pom Poko and Porco Rosso been mentioned yet? Ghibli,
and great ones at that.
Pumpkin Scissors could be worth a go.
Spice and Wolf
Cromartie High

If my memory hasn't betrayed me completely, I can almost
assure you that Patlabor is worth your time.

It's a great thriller from the 80s by Mamoru Oshii.

Give it a try, man! :)

weird 6 ep ova, very fast paced & nicely animated
a rare exception imo, which shows all those lame animes
full of stills and long explanations how its being done.
