How would you describe a rich melody?
I've been looking around but I can't find a definitive answer that I am happy with.

He's really quiet bloke. He does not really come across a melodious individual, more rhythmic and intuitive.

I can see that track by AFX contains a rich melody- I feel that I could give examples of which melodies are rich and which are not. For example, mebbe I'm wrong, but I would imagine a lot of Tortoise is pretty rich.
I need a succint definition- 'a rich melody is one which...'.
Cheers.

Is it one in which there are dense layers? The notes are close together on the scale? Something to do with texture?
Forgive me if this sounds like a load of shit- I have no musical knowledge.

a rich melody is a melody that could make you feel OK after losing your wallet with 200 dollars in it.

rich
it is a combination of 3 & 8. 7 is relevant, think ear candy and so is 2 & 5.
lush
is 2.
feel free to use them interchangably.

"pleasantly full and mellow"- that's a good definiton, glasse. cheers! Lush seems pretty different, though.
And I would agree with your definition too, otiarc. =)

most people mistake the rhythms in IDM for melodies.. Most RDJ and Ae tracks are rich in rhythms, but not very melodic (in the technical sense) i'd say...
obviously, there are exceptions.

i would disagree and say that both ae and rdj write music that is rich in melodic content.
