Because, you know, life isn't already depressing enough.

it's amazing how many comments there are on that site which
are flat out denying that is even exists.

one person even goes so far as to say that a shit ton of
plastic DOESN'T/COULDN'T fuck with any ecosystem. at all.

yeah, the environment is just like it was when we got here.

While scientific analysis of this garbage cycle is
ongoing, it doesn't always take a press release from the FDA
to make us understand that something is seriously wrong, and
action must be taken.

This is what I don't understand, anyone would know that
endlessly pumping crap into the sea just means the crap
goes.. into the sea, it doesn't disappear. ANYONE KNOWS
this, why do you need a Scientific Study?

Are you being serious?

Then again, that kind of attitude may be the one that will
stop us committing suicide for what we've done to nature. I
guess I can see where you're coming from.

i didn't read that article but i watched this doco on some
indie site a week or so ago. was real depressing. 7 days out
in the ocean, middle of nowhere, and the water was full of
tiny bits of broken up plastic.
literally be impossible to clean, and it's only gonna get
worse :F

Not appalled enough? There's more. In addition to the
obviously negative impact that this new Atlantis has on the
Pacific Ocean and its wildlife, doomsday-ish scenarios exist
that believe that us opposable-thumb-having, land-based
bipeds might be completing the horrific circle by ingesting
the photodegraded byproducts of our own garbage as it works
its way back to us through the food chain.

there's no reason anyone shouldn't be appalled. it's pretty
fucken bad..

Yeah, I can't figure that out, myself. If a person is really
that daft, or that deeply in denial, I don't see what a
report from a couple faceless scientists would accomplish.

no but honestly...

"In addition to the obviously negative impact that this new

doomsdayish scenarios exist that believe that us
opposable-thumb-having, land-based bipeds might be
completing the horrific circle by ingesting the
photodegraded byproducts of our own garbage as it works its
way back to us through the food chain."

the cause may well be worth hating yourself for, but whoever
wrote this needs a massive slap.

he's saying; 'look at us (shakes head and tuts @ humanities
foolishness). we've only gone and bloody poisoned ourselves
as well!'

the whole vibe of this thing rubs me up the wrong way

ahh, its typical but hey ho i aint gonna worry bout
poisoning myself with plastic eating fish, i'm sure i'll get
that from all the carrier bag eating turtle soup i scoff.

i found it more amusing that he would compare a mass of
human waste to a mythical underwater city.
