as far as i'm aware brisk is unable to make it, which makes

not really but you should be able to find me there if you
check hanal's or brisk's friends for a certain jeroen.

i think the whole meeting up stuff will have to happen by
chance, by us just wearing our xlt buttons as usual.

joystick)

i'd like to know what aphex fans thinks of Florian Hecker. i
love both but i've noticed many people on earth can't stand
Hecker records.

what was it like heckerFX,
any significant new sounding stuff?

offline rudster from the glasgow on 2009-03-16 12:45 [#02279903]

aphex was the definite highlight of the full weekend,
absolutely blew the place apart, played a few tuss tracks
but majority was gabba soundin stuff but very danceable, the
visuals were insane, showing autopsy videos, but surpringly
fitting,

my top 4 of the weekend -
1. Aphex Twin
2. Future sound of london
3. Carl Craig
4. Afrika Bambata

i filmed the entire Q bert set but i wasnt overly impressed,
he wasnt on top of his game, quite loose at times
scratching.

Caught a bit of beardyman and was alot better than previous
live shows, Tim Exile's set was not as comical as previous
live shows, he had the joystick controller but it wasnt
attached to his groin like his 07 bloc set.

all in all a crackin weekend

Carl Craig and Aphex fair enough, but I thought FSOL were
disappointing and Afrika Bambaataa a bit shit. He played Bob
Sinclair for christ sake. It pissed me off how FSOL was
skipping and the visuals were wank.

Ceephax's karaoke was a bit of a disaster, although I didn't
tell him that at the bar later on. His mixer broke.

My favourites were Aphex, Exile, Richard Devine, Pole,
Ulrich Schnauss and Russell Haswell.

The swimming baths were decent, not as good as the BLOC team
made out but the Space Bowl was blisteringly fast. Not many
of the attractions seemed to be open.

BLOC TV was very good a lot of the time. I spent quite a bit
of time watching old movie trailers, retro adverts,
animations and music videos.

I give it 8.5/10.

puppet show,

yeah i noticed a few times speakers kept cuttin out during
fsol and sometimes with aphex

Yeah I watched that. I'd like to have DVD's of everything
they showed to watch at my leisure, or better still have
that channel permanently tuned in on my TV.

what a wicked festival. if only i was home now to get some
well deserved sleep.

sadly though, me and my buddies now have 10 hours to kill at
stansted airport because BLOC fucked up the whole bus
thing.

one extra day wasted. one extra planeticket wasted. another
day without decent food or sleep. FUCKING GREAT.

it was! haha

Was the Aphex setlist similar to his set at the end of
2007?
Going to see him in 3 weeks, can't wait!

talking to you about the afx set. i think the second half
significantly improved on the first half but overall not as
good as expected.

the opening sequence for the aphex/hecker set was fucking
brilliant. i'm pretty sure they set out to deliver one of
the loudest sets in music history. at least i've never heard
anything this deafening.

stage buildup, light rigs, white on black aphex logo with a
strobe on it, all incredibly well done. and then there was
that creepy aphex womancreature with suspended
tentaclespeakers. ace!

other highlights:

FSOL, despite not actually being there and leaving us to
guess if it actually was a live feed or perhaps 'just' a
recording, were brilliant. Many of the great big tunes gave
me goosebumps. Delays were a bit annoying but not too bad.

CLARK doing his thundering technical breaks with an
interesting setup (if anyone can tell me what he used here,
i'd be interested to know) without laptop or decks. Oh and
it was loud too.

ED DMX as expected did a wonderful oldskool electro mix
using good old vinyl. Got everyone doing happy electro
dancemoves at 6pm. Ace!

ULRICH SCHNAUSS did a wonderful set, i'm sure, but it was
completely ruined by extreme bass levels, drowning out the
melodies and high details. Looking forward to hearing the
recording of this.

witnessed partial sets by:

digital mystikz, benga & skream (obviously having fun 'yo,
yo whats happening bloc'), 2 bad mice, egyptian lover (too
loud. bass made me nauseous 8 0 motherfuckin' 8. bit
annoying, though Ed DMX said 'now that was fucking wicked
wasn't it?'

Venue was amazing. Loved the pavillion. Some of the stages
looked a bit too much like bingo/linedance bars and i wished
they had concealed it with more light rigs and banners/flags
etc.

Biggest complaint: excessive volume levels almost
everywhere. it was just ridiculous considering how small
most stages were. My ears hurt, and i missed a good deal of
music because i was hearing not much other than the floor
and furniture vibrating.

All in all it was a great weekend. If they promise to have
the coach buses riding on time next time i will consider
returning!
And Rh

i was stood just behind the dancefloor too. just to the left

incredible. do you know of any releases that he's got that
are similar to what he played at that gig? or any

What did you think of the gig? i liked it a lot. i thought
industrial died when skinny puppy did in the 80s but thas
shit was crazy. hypermodernindustrial. abrasive but with a
beat. i met william bennett which was pretty cool.
