Oh baby, I'm gettin my "I told you so" bumper stickers ready. Can't wait to rub it in these next 4 years to anyone who did not vote 3rd party.
And also of note it looks like the Democrats have control of all the branches. Incoming more rushed-through policies. When governments rush things (just look at the bailout) they never turn out how they expect them to. Now that all of the branches are in Democratic control there won't be any real dialogue for the issues if they got jammed up somewhere in the house.
Now it's all about voting on party lines - and if that's the case, we all LOSE.

the fact that he is black and has been elected president shows that the united states of america is moving away from its dark past. it may not matter in totality that he is black, but it has great symbolic value

the symbolic value is that 100 years ago this kind of event would have only existed in science fiction
sorry, 10 years ago. when morgan freeman acted as a black president in that movie Deep Impact, people everywhere were like "wow, neat. not like that would ever happen, but..." , and it was just a "maybe", or a "what if?"
it shows that the whole world is in flux. stuff is changing, you just have to accept it. change is just coming hard and fast and in weird ways

what a lot of people ignore though is that we have a huge barrier to break through still
a proposition went through this same evening that a black president was elected - that bans gay marriage. homosexuals are now banned in this country from being married. so, if you are a gay man or woman, you cannot marry the person you love. you can't even have a civil union. it is not available to you but it is available to someone else.
so what we've done is taken a huge step ahead, while taking a step backwards.... have we gone anywhere? barack does not support civil unions or gay marriage... so, its a bit weird. theres still lots of homophobia in this country.
i am not gay but i think if you are gay you should be able to marry the person you love and receive the appropriate tax benefits and whatever else comes with that. this country, the whole planet has to overcome homophobia, sexism, still lots of racism, nationalism, and etc. humans just aren't going anywhere. we aren't going anywhere and we are going to end up destroying each other completely if we don't wake up. its good to take a step forward, but if you take a step back .....?

on a more esoteric level this requires humanity becoming more female. that is, more willing and accepting rather than imposing and composing. in the east (i could be wrong about this) it's the return of "shiva" or something like that
the male aspect of humans is taking over, it's all about imposing, composing, protecting and etc. that shit has to stop, we are going to impose each other out of existance. it has to stop if we have any further use or desire to have human bodies.
the amazing thing is we will end up imposing our beliefs on each other to death, and then call it "self defense". the totality of our idea of self has to be bigger or else we are going to kill off all the small portions in "self defense", and then there won't be any selves on earth to defend! sorry for ranting!

oh and one last thing;
let's not forget that barack said he would destroy anybody who opposed the united states in his speech tonight. he said, "we will defeat you".
so, we have a person now in control of nuclear weapons who has in his interest seeing other humans "defeated". if you ask me we have gone nowhere. call me a fucking hippy, over-optimistic retard if you want - but you've also got to look at that statement for what it is. "i will kill other humans if i have to". come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we've got to leave that mentality behind!!!!! it's old!!

Didn't MLK say something around the line of don't judge me by my color, but by my actions? Sorry I don't have the exact words, but basically *if* I remember that correctly i think he would be rolling over in his grave.
A lot of blacks voted Democratic since Lyndon Johnson, prior too that they were very conservative.
Anyway, the % of blacks that voted for Obama is staggering. I find it easy to believe that many voted based on the fact he's black....that's why I brought up that MLK reference.
Furthermore, I find it quite funny how the person running for Office this year that would have helped the Black Community the most was marginalized by the Media and the community (speaking about Paul - tried to turn him into a Racist). When you have somebody that wants to end the War on Drugs and pardon every person in jail that was in there for non-violent crimes (~80% of the jail population is Black), you begin to question where America's mind is at. THAT is easily the most beneficial thing that could have been done for the community, but since History didn't turn out like I wished it had, let's continue on with our golden pedestal on which Obama rests.

unpoplular. if it was possible he would probably be killed by the the cia. (call me a loonie now:) but i really hope he just quits the war on terror, cancels the patriot act and moves out of the middle east. but thats not likely to happen either i think. so whats left to hope for? ice cream?
