90's
richard d. james, mike paradinas, tom jenkinson, luke
vibert, sean&rob, plaid, boc, etc...

00's
???
who are the new 'stars' of electronic music during this last
decade? it seems always the same pioneers are ruling the
world.

oh, so you admit to have stopped following the scene nearly
9 years ago?

quite interesting times we live in, still people are denying
it.

you are hopelessly lost in your own narrow perception of
what electronic music is, you've proven this since the day
you started making polls - its completely ridiculous.

what is obvious is that any of the lists we just gave is so
less impressive than the list he gave

so what if he were out of the scene, I prefer missing
allthat happened in the 00`s than all that happened in the
90`s

and in all kinds of music

even own any records that aren't on warp or rephlex?

Take these popular choices:
Alva Noto
Burial
Murcof
Svarte Greiner
Mr 76ix
Tim Hecker
Jamie Lidell

The only pioneers who still have anything to say are imo
Autechre and to semo extent RDJ. And of course Squarepusher
had a lot going in 2001.
If Mike Paradinas is on your list of greats, why don't you
acknowledge Aaron Funk's existance? As stubborn and
predictable as he is, he surpassed u-Ziq's achievements long
long time ago.
Please get out of this hole that you dug up for yourself.

Also, didn't Amon Tobin and Mouse On Mars mean anything in
the electronic music world of the late 90s where you live?
We also had a great popularity of The Third Eye Foundation
as a bonus. I still enjoy it.

you guys know that crystal castles steal music from actual
chiptune artists right?

lo-bat and covox

look it up

yeah amon was around then (i didn't know him at the time)
but his the stylistic leap he made between permutation and
supermodified was huge. i consider the latter to be the
album which brought tobin into his own.

and irt to crystal castles stealing music, i did look it up,
and it's been blown hugely out of proportion. people are
getting all hubabalub mainly about one track which was only
briefly released on their myspace and through no other
official medium. some are getting in a huff because cc are a
commercial band using creative commons licensed material,
but the song in question was released with no profit
whatsoever. i mean seriously, they probably just put
together a little diddy, yeah rearranging a song they liked,
and threw it up on myspace. hardly an official release i
would say. and furthermore the artist (lo-bat) himself
hardly seems concerned with the issue, it's the rest of the
scene who are getting their panties in a twist.

and the second instance, they only sampled a fucking kick
drum. seriously, are people going to be getting bent out of
shape from a sampled kick drum in this digital age where
whole albums can be composed of samples? yawn.

clark and mr. oizo...
electronic music died when kraftwerk went all electronic
with no krautrock.

I'd back up cunty's list (though i've never heard of andy
stott)

especially Proem. Proem is one of the best in the genre
(esp socially inept)+ he has a new ambient album coming soon
(sleepcore)

also recommended:
tim hecker
daedelus
frog pocket

I guess Oizo and Justice are also O.K... way overrated
though.

Real "groundbreaking" electronic music has been dead since
2001. Confield and Drukqs were too good, they fucked it all
up. What's left is boring, shit glitch, "minimal techno"
(it's fucking beeps, people) and dubstep, which can suck my
ass (aside from burial).

more than half of the artists mentioned for the 00's began
releasing shit in the mid 90's and don't really have the
same kind of impact on the scene
but what do you expect, electronic music isn't a new form of
music now, there's much less room to innovate both in the
technology and in the music itself

and i totally agree that there's a lot of new exciting
stuff, you just have to open your mind and your ears :)

theres lot of new and good stuff

but what woofer meant is that nowadays the good names around
are not as huge and impressive as those from the 90s

be honest and comapre any of your lists with this:

aphex
autechre
plaid
boards of canada
drexciya
paradinas
orbital
lfo
fsol
the orb
b12
..........

imagine seeing that list back in 1996 when they were all
giants by then, but hadnt still started the fall down

and dont tell me that any of the new names could even touch
the heights those reached in terms of music innovation or
media impact

and those who talk about amon tobin, luke vibert or cylob as
artists from the new century should know that they totally
are from the 90s (at least as much as autechre or aphex)

How about this guy OTO. I think some of this sounds pretty
good, hints of dubstep, maybe some 2562 mixed the subcon
sound and classic 90s.

7 songs at djoto.com, but this was my fav

thanks for listing Mouse On Mars. They're not from UK and
not so idm-cool but they've been changing from album to
album and are some fine example of artist re-invention. --->
