Is it just me or is it really shit that America releases so many fucking good films that don't air over here at all, or that come out 3 years later? I guess it's the same with the rest of the world, but aren't we meant to have a relationship with USA?
We gave you troops for an oil-war, GIVE US MOVIES, GOD DAMN YOU!

I am serious. Thanks for covering my back, FlyAgaric. =)
I guess I should have realised this was another obscure topic to put up for discussion.
Perhaps this is a more suitable topic for a film forum, since it's so specific.
Sorry people!
I have looked up the definition of internet trolling and I guess it seems like this is what I am doing. But it's not. Sorry if I hjave pissed anyone off.
Then again, I think people like lupus yonderboy must enjoy being in their emotional rut if they get annoyed this easily.

None specifically.
My friend just told me about his American mate who is much more passionate above movies (apparently typical of Americans, in relation to Brits). he tells my friend about loads of different films which are unheard of in UK.
And for this reason I feel that UK is missing out a little.
Epic Movie is released a few weeks later here than in US, but I didn't mean that film specifically.
This may have been in earlier years, when distribution technology wasn't what it is now or something, I dunno.
I think we just call this quits now, anyway.
I will do more research next time before posting shiz.

From someone that just hurls abuse at people, then crawls back to his hermit shelter, I find what you say to encourage nothing but contempt towards you.
I don't dislike you man. I feel for you- it is sad that some people are so unhappy. I would like to help you, only there are worthier causes.

for once I'm not wrong
The film's distributor is Fox Searchlight, Not Twenieth Century Fox, therefore by definition it is an Indie film.
This may seem only a small difference, but I imagine the film would have been very different, more Hollywood influenced, is it were released by TCF.

I am not saying that I personally think that I think it is right that a $6.5M film should be called Indie, but it is. Therefore, whether you agree with that or not, it is an Indie film. I'm not wrong.
I found it weird that 'Little Miss Sunshine' was an Indie film too, but later I found that although it had a budget of $8M budget, it was paid off by a source other than the distributor i.e indepedantly funded. It is not about the budget, but where the money comes from. This doesn't compomise originality or uniqueness, which 'LMS' is testament to.

at a certain point it seems like indie stopped just meaning that a movie was not funded or produced my a major studio.
instead, it seems that being off-beat or artsy is enough for it to be thought of as indie these days.
pulp fiction is an example that springs to mind.

I do agree, glasse. Indie doesn't mean much any more.
Even if Donnie Darko was independantly funded and whatever, it really is not an Indie film. Not original enough. And not at all artistic.
Gummo! Now there's an Indie film. Anyone seen it? low grade camera film and almost no formally trained actors. Also, "disturbing content and strange style" make this a true Indie classic.
Gummo
