"Fans of Aphex Twin, Drexciya, Jeff Mills/UR, Mr.
Fingers, etc. will be very pleased to hear this music.
There's no sign of plagiarism though; indeed, the Rephlex
aficionados were surprised how little the artist knew about
that kind of music, considering the quality of the tunes.
The style is contemporary / instrumental /
analog-digital-hybrid / mid- to fast-paced
electro/funk/techno/break/acid/house/dance music with dark
and light patches and awesome micro-tuning."

Aknowledging that this is just PR bollocks and nothing to do
with the artist, but is it possible to get away with tying
yourself up in quite so many knots being at pains to say the
music's not derivative but at the same time influenced by so
many artists and styles? Sounds like Tycho syndrome (I never
heard it before, I only had a shit load of mp3s but not
actual albums)

nothing can ever again have the potential drexciya did
unless there's a new form of technology which can be used to
create music in a meta-physical sense.

Doesn't matter if he used it or not, it's the equivalent of
getting an expensive analog synth then making patches that
sound like a freeware VST, default preset patches at that!

Dopplereffekt would need to get into analog synths again,
Stingray even I can copy is style, James Stinson was really
the soul of Drexciya which many tried to copy but there's
always something missing.

It's different vibes, Gerald is more cold in his approach to
music while Stinson on the hand always had a sort of
melancholy and warmer side to his music.

Stripping it all back to the very barest essentials, Rephlex
deliver a tantalisingly anonymous and unadorned 12" of
machine funk specials from new signing Jody Kendrick. He's
quite obviously heavily inspired by label head Mr R. D.
James but Jodey has considerable skill and small twists of
his own in the hyper-kinetic patterns, melodic motifs and
keen rhythmic force that earns him much respect in his own
right. For your hard earned you'll get 6 tracks of
Analordin' acid, IDM techno and human/machine rhythm
conversations with a seal of approval from the big ginger
one upstairs. Class.

No.

Gave it a synclisten together with 'a great big famous IDM
artist that you all probably know', and i must say it's
quite boring. It's like a bedsheet that hasn't been washed
thoroughly enough, some nasty cumstains here, and some
smelly fartstains there, very faint but still there. The
cumstains being "Analord", and fartstains being "The Tuss".
Not that it matters ofcourse, the sheet is still a sheet,
but it's just not something you'd sleep under again.
