In bed with tortoise

I've enjoy enough village wine and now I'm in bed with a
tortoise. Not like that, of course; he's quite small and
he's quite happy to crawl around while I piss about on the
net. He used to drag his head back into the shell while I
touched it, but now he keeps it stuck out, unbothered by my
finger strokes. Maybe this is cruel, assuming he's used to
it; but before he'd jump back into his shell immediately and
now he doesn't give a damn. So I guess I'll assume he's fine
with it and continue, unless he objects.

It's strange to think he'll outlive me. I think tortoises
are great pets.

it just sneezed. I didn't think they could sneeze; it was
quite frightening. I hear this sudden deranged hiss, but it
looks fine after it. During it, its eyes were closed and its
head gave a little shake.

If I was a man turtle mating with a feman turtle I would not
liked it if the feman turtle closed her shell on my penises.

I wonder if a tortoise could have a (semi-)conscious
perception of being petted/massaged, or if its acceptance of
your touch (choosing not to withdraw its head) is simply the
most efficient way to respond to the stimulus once you've
been deemed nonthreatening?

Has he exhibited any peculiar behaviors, or is he mostly an
average joe?

Of course turtles sneeze, haven't you seen The Neverending
Story? A good thing to feed turtles is catfood. If you only
feed them lettuce their shell can collapse due to vitamin
deficiencies or something weird. Is your tortoise a
galapagos tortoise by chance?

No, none really. It pretty much just waddles about eating
grass and then sleeping; apart from the change in how it
reacts to people stroking its head, it does the same thing
it has always done - which is fine and pleasant. If I had a
lot more room and if it were easier to do I'd love to get a
giant Galapagos tortoise, though. Apparently they're much
more intelligent than regular tortoises, and even respond to
their own individual names (I heard this from someone who
has looked after a bunch of them in captivity...)

I used to keep bearded dragons, and they definitely each had
different personalities - just in terms of simple things,
like how some would remember that when I came in it meant
food, and would rush to the glass and furiously scratch it
as soon as I entered, while the dopier ones just sat there
until the food was right in front of them. The weirdest
thing ever was a very bright and active female I had who
practically played the male's role in courtship, because the
male was pretty stupid and lazy. She'd do the sort of things
he's meant to do first - biting the neck, rushing towards
him, bobbing her head before he'd even started doing it.
It's hard to believe, but it's true; I've even got some
footage of it. And she's definitely a female, because she
later laid eggs after she eventually coaxed the slow idiot
into a bit of sex!

attentions!
