This is my first full length mix with Ableton and I'm still learning to find my way around the GUI. So, don't be shocked by some mastering issues, they will be corrected in my next mix. :)

downloading, but it's 3:22 am and i've been dj'ing all evening myself so i must go to bed. i'll try to check it out in the morning.
are you playing this live or are the tracks pre-sequenced? what kind of setup are you using? i've been spinning with ableton for about a year so i bet i could give you a nifty tip or two.

thanks for your time, dude
Yes, it's all pre-sequenced. I haven't yet done any live DJ'ing although I've had a few opportunities... the mix is rather dance-oriented, so I guess it could work on a dancefloor as well as on an mp3 player, but it's not improvised live or anything like that.
As for Ableton, yea, my main problem is keeping the levels normalized without resorting to excessive compression or distortion during crossover and mash-up sections. These problems usually disappear after a bit of practice with any given software. Luckily this only happens once or twice during the mix (with Still Alive it's deliberate) and doesn't distract too much. The other problem is, I haven't found a way to speed up a track from a lower RPM to a higher one except incrementally, in sections. Is there an easy solution to speeding up a track little by little?

i have come across the same problem when doing mash-ups actually. compression is certainly the easiest solution, but the sound gets so flat when you play it on a good system.
the best results i have gotten are from cutting certain frequencies instead of doing a straight fade. for example, i have one track playing normally. on both tracks i have both a bass cut and a lp filter. i start the second track and slowly roll in the cut off of the filter. then at a build up, increase the resonance on the filter for the first track and roll it back a bit, then at the drop cut back the bass on the first track and bring it in on the second.
to increase the tempo (BPM not RPM) of the track gradually (in sequencing mode) expand the master tab, then select mixer > song tempo and draw whatever envelope you want.

yea, thanks anyway.
The tempo is slow, but it's natural tempo except for maybe two tracks where it's pushed down. It's meant more for laid back listening anyway, hence the inclusion of psybient.
I always adored Alex Paterson's eclectic mixes, mixing country with acid house. Plus, it started out as more of an exercise than anything, but i decided to upload it anyway because someone might get a kick out of it.

yes! LP- or HP-filter crossfade seems to be a popular technique. Also, good pro tip finding that "song tempo" envelope, it was in an unexpected place!
Anyway, I can't imagine using Ableton for actual composition except marginally. It's basically an extended interface, and a pretty good one at that, but more suited for crowning or mastering a track rather than starting from scratch. But of course "live" is in the name, so that should give it away...
