Ok what do you think about it ? I myself never played any
of the games but today I got myself the second opus for xbox
(I've got the 360 only but it's compatible) after so many
people told me to play the game because it's "SOOOO" scary
and all. I'm more a resident evil guy but I love dark and
strange atmospheres so I will try. So was this a good buy ?
Are you a fan ? Just express on that universe if you know
about it and before I put the game inside the machine...
Also I've seen the movie and thoughtit was very shitty...

see movie - mistake.
buy sh2 - good fucking job.
like re - bleh. sh > re.
fan me - yes.

start from sh1 if you get the chance. it's not directly
connected but it's like watching star wars v first.

lights out, volume up... soundtrack = win.
play it on hard.

and don't mind the slow/stoic/robotic dialogues. i'm sure
they're done like this on purpose.

Well I like when the action is slow with a lot of dialogues
and cinematics. It helps the mood.

Silent Hill is great, but if you think RE is horror, you're
probably going to wonder where all the enemies are...
they've been replaced by other “fancy” things like
atmosphere, story and the likes.

Nothing wrong with RE, but Silent Hill is much freakier,
especially the first three games. On the other hand I have
to say that Resident Evil has allowed the series to develop,
whereas Silent Hill is basically the same game over and over
again - but a game you should play.

The movie? Skip it... One of the better video game
adaptations, and it still sucks. What does that tell you
about video game adaptations on the big screen?

I -kind of- liked the movie, but it wasn't all that
surprising or exciting, i just liked how everybody got
killed at the end in combination with that frightning
howling church organ on the background.

The first 3 games are a yes go, haven't played the 4th yet.
Resident evil is cool too, but if you like searching around
in the dark with a flashlight, then shitting a brick because
of some random appearing enemy, pulling keys out of dead
halfcooked dogs and twitching halfdead horses on a carousel,
then this is your cup of tea.

There's a lot less action-movie influence in Silent Hill
compared to RE, the atmosphere is pretty much everything. SH
1-2-3 are masterpieces, 4 is a mess but worth playing for
the handful of good ideas (the giant head).

Silent Hill 2 is so great. And it's actually a melancholy
scene in the dilapidated hotel that remains the best part of
the series for me, a scene with no monsters or gore or
terror of any kind.

the fourth silent hill was surprisingly good in some
respects, but totally lame in others, like combat, puzzles,
enemies and story. The Room itself was a nice concept, but
the game was way too short and repetitive towards the end.
Definitely the weakest game in the series.

The PSP silent hill is just more of the same apparently... I
tried the PS2 port and it just felt really mediocre.

I kind of liked the movie, too, because it gives the right
vibe you expect, but it still doesn't fill the potential of
the Silent Hill universe (that only someone like David Lynch
could fulfill).

Silent Hill 4 wasn't designed to be a silent hill game. It
was supposed to be the start of a different franchise, but
for some reason half way through production they didn't want
to risk it and just renamed it and threw in some lame story
connections. That's why it feels like a different game; it
is.

Silent hill isn't really scary, but its creepy. Beautiful
atmosphere and great lore. Nothing really matches that
feeling of walking around in a dilapidated town and then
seeing it covered in rust and blood. I am a fan. My avatar
is from a picture of pyramid-head.

I actually thought the movie was pretty good. It kept in the
SH spirit, even though it had a quite obvious tinge of
hollywood.

Yeah.. the Shakespeare-puzzle... as I usually do when I
encounter a puzzle that seems hard, I asked a friend to
check if I would be able to solve it with only the clues
found within the game. Usually, that is possible, but on
this one I had to concede that the developers had got the
best of me, and I resorted to using the mighty gamefaqs. I
shall have to read more Shakespeare it seems.

dude! those puzzles were incredible! I nearly went insane,
and the scribblings I made trying to solve them were like
those of a schizophrenic trying to connect all the dots in
the universe.

... I want more of them! These so called "puzzles" in most
games are for pussies. Come on, floor the Mensa people!

I am a huge fan of silent hill actually. Although I have
only played the first one. I am just on my third run through
of the game which is on hard mode. It's really hard. I have
admit that when I first came across the demon babies in the
alternate school I very nearly shit my pants. So definately
I need to play more of the games.

I really liked the film. I thought it was very watchable.
Seemed to do a good job off marrying the different
storylines of the games together, well, as far as I know
anyway.
