Like a solar elipse except nothing like one but instead more like a religious time of fasting between dawn and sunset.

not that i'm a muslim/anything else but i observed it once for a matter of respect, while being in Cairo. it was winter '88, my father didn't reach the middle class yet so it was fun, every night some friend was coming with something to eat. we used to eat on the rough roof of his old house in Shobra, like the ones you always see in that part of the globe. i remember i loved mashed favas with lemon, and there still were the milky way in the sky of the city, too.

aren't you suppose to observe it for over a month, while fasting in the process... i mean if you're going to do something you might as well do it right.

Would it be controversial to assert that religious people are mentally ill?

Nah, it would be rather platitudinous to assert that. Besides that, why the hell would you observe a religious fast if you're not following the religion? Now that sounds mentally ill.

Well over here people who observe Ramadan continue to work as normal, they don't get extra days off for it or anything, if that's what you're implying
