That old time 90'ies pc game sound

I'm looking for some software that can make music that has
the same midi sounds as this clip.

Ultima underworld

I think the software that was used to make music for the
games must have been pretty common at some point, because a
lot of PC games from the 90'ies has this very similar,
distinct sound.

Another example

Darkseed

I really like the sound of this. The full bass, the strange
sounding bell chimes, the drums. I want these sounds!!!

Anyone have any ideas how i can accomplish this? Is it an
old PC tracker or something?

(without listening to the sample) that would be my
suggestion too.

Looking into that - Thanks both of you! 1up, you should
check out the ultima music actually... It's brilliant!

this is the tracker you'd love

It's an emulated Adlib tracker like those oldskool game
music and the Sega Genesis sound engine. In this thread is a
link for download, and also an english txt file with all the
info on effect commands you need.

i think it's just the midi sounds from the soundcard?

my bro used to have cakewalk on his ancient pc and it
sounded pretty much like that.

It's not exactly the same, even tho it sounds a lot like it,
but you can hear the difference if you download the
soundtrack to for example ultima underworld in midi files...
It's a bit different.

MIDI files are just data that tells a synthesizer what to
do

they're not actual sounds

so it will sound different depending on what soundcard
you're using

:)

yeah. had a listen, good stuff. fm8 is the answer. i knew
what kinda sound you meant just from the description.

I'm aware of that, ofcourse, but i said that because i think
there might have been some kind of tracker built inside the
games itself, instead of just using the soundcards standard
sounds (whatever they are), since when i play ultima
underworld on my computer now, the sounds are the same as
they were back when i played it on my 486.
