do i get a roland r8 or a dr110? r8 seems more flexible,
but dr110 has a lovely sound to it.

what microphone do i get for recording acoustic guitar? and
which for percussion?

what about a great analogue distortion/fuzz unit? and filter
unit?

i've also been looking at the vanamps stuff for a
while, their reverb loosk really interesting. anyone tried
it?

und so weiter...

Listening to samples the dr110 sounds very similar to the
606.

dr110 sounds good but is merely a toy unless you mod it for
external sync.

dr110 is like a 606 a bit, little analogue drum machine,
lovely character, limited features

r8 is midi digital production tip much more versatile,
menus, but cannot much sound like a little old analog box
like the 110, 808 and 909 card is good but not lovely and
missing some essential sounds too

i would pick the 110 but if u can be bothered to become a
real expert on the r8 (HUGE manual) it is better but
becoming an expert is either a long learning process or a
short term waste of time

get the R8 and a couple of cards. it rules! I have the rack
unit one (R8m).. and for a long time I'd used that and an
ASR-X for all my drums.

it's all about getting the R8 cards... there's a funny one
that is eastern drums or somerhing... and sound effects both
which are fun to mess with.

What happened to the 909?

if the dr110 lacks external sync, though, is it really worth
it mucking with soldering etc. to get it to work?

also, i need an affordable analogue monosynth, sequencer or
keyboard or both i don't care, as long as it can be cv
synced with my 707..

Still got the 909... but before I picked one up I was all
about the R8. I'd still rather my 909 to anything.... but if
I had to go drums and wanted to do it without spending tons
of $$$ I'd go R8.

DR110? nah... leave it.... get something that plays nice
with other gear or else you'll always have to "figure out"
how to incorporate the DR and end up never using it.

as for CV sync synths/gear... no idea...

How much are you planning on spending? What do you want to
do with it? What do you have right now that would do what
you plan on doing with these new pieces of gear? All these
are important questions.
