i somehow changed the appearance of the playlist editor so
i can no longer draw the structure of the song. It's now a
window with big squares in which i can't draw any lines but
only some box pops in whenever i click any square.

I tried to undo all actions, and looked for a 'reset all
settings to default' but found nothing.

please help!

Try clicking the down arrow next to the word 'automation' at
the top of the window and trying some other options. Maybe.

there's a thick bar at the bottom of the playlist. you can
drag it up. you can also click the top left down arrow, go
to view and choose swap panels.
