uh it's a sales thing so just do whatever they tell you to
do. you probably don't have to know much either

You'll need to make sure you understand and appreciate the
differences between types of apples. Should it be deep red
when ripe, or pale green? Is the taste sweeter or more
acidic? And then there's the tricky dilemma of presentation.
Should the stem be left on, or twisted off? Must the apple
be presented whole, or cut up into slices? Should the skin
be left on, or peeled off? Is it safe to eat the apple on
its own, or should it be combined with other ingredients?
Should the apple even be eaten, or instead given to a First
grade teacher? These and other difficult questions will have
to be answered on a daily basis. Trust me, you don't want to
be fumbling for the answers when those hungry customers
arrive. Best make sure you're prepared.

I applied for a job at one. You don't have to know much,
they're mainly looking for people that will worship Apple
without shame. The last part of my interview was "create a 3
minute presentation on why Apple are so great". I didn't get
it.

I think i could pull a 3 minute buttkiss off,

Cygnus: do you mean Tech support for their computers? I wish
i knew a computer well enough to do that, because sales is
the last thing i want to do.

And i have no previous job experience besides wrapping
palettes and mowing lawns

my mate works at the local apple store, you don't have to be
ultra knowledgable about apple products or sales in general.
they teach you all this stuff once you get the job. they
have an online testing programme where you can choose
various sections and you earn points for completing a
section. you have to earn a certain amout of points per year
i think.

the commision sucks btw....they make £2 on an ipod.

I couldn't do a three second presentation about the wonders
of apple.... here's why.

iphone/jesus phone. has only just got 3G. innovative, eh? no
real buttons because tactile feedback is soooo overrated. oh
and totally obscene charges/contracts. why do people buy
this crap? oooh cos it looks shiny and nice, look at those
sanded corners. im sure it goes really well with the man bag
and starbucks coffee (super mocha choca froca chino)

My favourite description of them is "fruit themed toy
maker".
They take the basic intel x86 computer architecture used by
world+dog, shove it in a box (again like everyone else), but
here is the clever part...
sand down the corners and paint it white with a little image
of fruit for good measure. oh and then charge double the
money for the equivalent bits in any other pc.

as for the os, how about grab a BSD and just make a snazzy
interface for it. Make a mouse with only one button work
with it because multiple buttons = really confusing.

then of course the ipod. what a load of crap. I am amazed at
the number of people that people replace their old Ipod with
a new one because the old one broke or something. "my
product broke and I found it so disagreable I'm going to buy
again from the same company". logical. oh and Itunes with
its lovely DRM. "beep beep. I'm sorry you cannot copy this
song anymore. You never bought it, you licensed it.
suckahhhh"

I like the brand association tags for apple

here. these are the words to include in your 3
minute eulogy to the lord steve jobs of the kingdom of
cappucino.

I do have a love of Cox's apples. There are some in the
fridge right now... ohhh STOP..... APPLE time! yum yum yum
yum yum

RE: the job, i think general sales knowledge will prove
better than product knowledge. the old phrase, 'you don't
hire a coal miner to sell coal' springs to mind.

i reckon customer service will be a high priority, so
emphasize how you'll (efficiently) spend time with and help
customers. also if you don't know the answer to something,
don't be afraid to ask. in interviews they prefer you to ask
rather than bullshit.

Apple = Nice computers. Shit everything else. The iPod +
iTunes = Overrated + overpriced garbage as dave g said.
Pretty much double exactly what Dave said and you have my
opinion.

1up:
I'm sorry but apple computer = pc. The bits inside are
EXACTLY the same. Seriously. ever since they switched from
PPC to intel CPUs.
I think microsoft are rubbish. My computer is a Thinkpad T60
running linux. Bill gates can get stuffed.

Futureimage:
Write your own rant you lazy sod.

Vlari: I have a pathological hatred of our electronic rodent
enemies. I love the thinkpad trackpoint keyboard joystick
doodah. I'd prefer if keyboard use was the primary input
method in lots of programs.
I didn't want to include the one button mouse thing but hey.
How about the non localised keyboards. my friend bought a
mac in the UK and it will only come with the US layout
(which is clearly rubbish compared to uk layout)

- - - - - - - -

The worst thing about apple stuff recently is the whole
soldered battery. It just encourages the throw-away society
even more. This sort of corporate irresposibility should be
avoided - it makes me so upset. I tend to (and would rather)
buy things which are built to last, not thrown away after a
year or two.

To be a bit upbeat, I now own a second copy of
this badboy on vinyl. This is getting rinsed at
full volume tomorrow at least 8 times seamlessly. (I'm so
sorry neighbours)

sniff-sniff... i smell bullshit. what about soundcards and
the like. how come my macbook runs much faster and more
efficiently than my same priced laptop. how come it runs
music applications without a soundcard when my pc just cant
cope full stop? build quality counts for something too.

i have 2 ipods. the first one i've had for 5 years and it
still works fine now. i got a new one for more storage
space. call me lucky or whatever but everyone else i know
who owns one is on the same boat. furthermore, people i know
who went for phillips mp3 players and other branded ones
over ipods have all regretted it and ended up buying ipods.

to just dismiss apple products as being shite is ludicrous.
i like apple, you like PC, lets just leave it at that eh? ;)

no.

If you want build quality buy a thinkpad.
I don't like PCs per se. The original PC architecture was
awful. Ever since they've had so many legacy mistakes that
they still haven't quite totally removed them. IBM shouldn't
have sub-conned the initial design!

In many ways the early 68000 based macs had a nicer
architecture. I'm a big fan of the motorola 68000 series
CPUs. much nicer to program than the equivalent intel ones.
Anyhow... water under the bridge.

At the current time, a mac=pc, hardware wise (we shall
ignore case design - this is from an electronic
perspective).

I would imagine that your operating system, background
processes, etc will have an enormous affect on the speed of
a machine. You really need to have identical software setups
to be able to accurately determine which is faster.

I'm not sure the point of running audio apps without a
soundcard, unless you're really into John Cage. I'm not
suprised performance is better without soundcard. Say you're
playing CD quality stereo. Thats 44.1 thousand times a
second you're bussing out at least 32 bits to the soundcard
(that's the whole width of the PCI bus taken up thousands of
times a second. probably more with whatever non audio data
is sent by the soundcard driver). no wonder the soundcard
machine is slower than the other. What about latency
settings, process priorities, virus scanners, etc. An
identical software environment is like I said, essential for
A:B comparisons. [have I misunderstood the whole soundcard
thing?]

As for Ipods, I appreciate that from your anecdotal evidence
they're perhaps not as self-destructable as I may have
implied . Itunes is still a massive con trick though.

I don't think all apple products are shite tbh. I just think
they are dangerously overpriced, often style over substance.
It's easy to be seduced by apple, but apply some rational
thought and realise it is too expensive and their gadgets
(non computers) are not designed to last.

i think apple is targeted at a different audience. when i
get a little older and cbf with having to deal with a pc,
i'll be happy to make the move. until then, pc is holding
fine. just need to keep an eye on it is all.
theres gonna be an apple store in melbourne soon but its
gonna be pissy and small. definitely not worth camping
outside for the opening.

i meant with music creation apps... like ableton live and
reason and the like. i make sure there are no processes
running in the background. i know about this from music
making... i need everything running as efficient as
possible.

build quality still does count for something.

for me personally, from my own experience, it is indeed the
standard windows pc which is not designed to last. same with
shitty mp3 players. this is just my opinion though, just
like you have yours.

i'd love to use linux on my pc however, until some decent
music creation software comes out i wont be touching it.

but anyways, lets get the topic back on track eh?

why do people need to compare shit all of the time? If you
don't like something, don't use it.
