is there a reason why the police don't go after soulseek?
surely that is much bigger than oink ever was?

good question. why are things like slsk not under scrutiny?
It's great that it's not but it makes you wonder.

The only thing they can do is target a particular site/p2p
network and hope it instills fear towards others?

I'd say the internet has already won. It's nothing but scare
tactics.

because slsk doesn't have nearly as much traffic as the big
torrent sites. slsk may seem big, but its mainly underground
and rare music which is traded there, neither of which are
of particular interest to the companies which will ever
bother with busting p2p users.

yea, I think they are mainly concerned with the 1% of albums
that their revenues depend on. Individual tracks are not
that destructive for their business model. But of course
it's still an uphill battle, to say the least. I guess they
haven't considered adapting to the changing environment
instead of fighting windmills.

They should go after ISP's not the users, maybe capping the
bandwidth of all P2P connections, definitely blocking access
to piratebay and all other torrents sites that link to
pirated files... something along those lines.

offline Sano on 2008-06-03 17:05 [#02212911]

ISP's and also closing sites that link/host pirated files.

yes i agree.

i don't want to get bummed in prison for downloading music,
i hope they don't come for me

offline jackeroffer from Aruba on 2008-06-03 17:58 [#02212924]
Points: 1038 Status: Lurker

sano thats a terrible idea, isps are already doing that here
to all P2P traffic regardless if it is illegal or not.

banning or capping a file transfer protocol just because its
being used for illegal purposes is ludicrous

now im classed like a drug user. im getting high off music .
and for this they wanna send me and my pretty little botty
to prison.

what sano, never heard of fucking net neutrality?

once you give isps the right to limit access to certain
sites, they have the ability to block access to ANY site,
because really, who is going to keep an eye on them?

just look at the great firewall of china - with your
philosophy, thats where we'd be headed.
