Nurse with Wound

Is anyone here into Nurse with Wound? I am thinking of
getting some of his music, what releases do you suggest
getting first?

I kinda dig Nurse with Wound. Coil, I think, is a lot
better, more organized stuff. I'd definitely suggest
getting into Coil instead.

i like some of the coil tracks i've heard, though i can't
seem to find their stuff in the uk!

But I have loads of Coil allready, it's time for something
different. I still love Coil though(and Current 93, etc...)

Pantalaimon, it's almost impossible to find any Coil
releases that aren't really expensive. My advice is just
download--they're essentially defunct anyway and so much is
out of print. I've found the rereleases of stuff for about
$22--e-gad!

If you like Coil, then NWW will probably appeal to you, too!

Nature And Organisation.

I would reccomend 'Soliloquy for Lilith', 'Spiral Insana',
'Sugar Fish Drink', and 'Acts of Sensless Beauty' in that
order.

I should be receiving 'Man with the Woman Face' any day
now...

Recommend?
What songs have you heard of his that you like?

I know him from his work with Current '93. One track I liked
in particular was "I have a special plan for this world"

That's a truly great literary work. I've never read
anything more terrifying my whole life! Thomas Ligotti's
writing style, in my opinion, far transcends the often
associated Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, and Machen.. Have
you heard 'The Degenerate Little Town' yet? It was just
rereleased in digipack format with a booklet containing all
of the accompanying text(I don't know how big of a Current
93 fan you are, you may already be well aware of this).
I'm actually not sure if Nurse With Wound had all that much
influence on 'I Have a Special Plan..". I think the musical
ambience probably owed more of it's sound to Christoph
Heeman( HNAS, Mirror, etc.)who was also involved in that
record.
Steven Stapleton's(NWW)surrealist signature is much more
apparent on C93 albums such as 'Bright Yellow Moon' or
'Octopus'.

Christopher Heeman is also responsible for the swirling
dirge-like opening of the original version of 'A Gothic Love
Song' and the dismal sound arrangements on 'Chewing on
Shadows', the last song on Soft Black Stars.
He also appears quite a bit on An Introduction to
Suffering(the album with the prancing deer on the cover)
-Both which are two of Current 93's finest records in my
opinion.

-Anyway, I think you'd really like Nurse With Wound's
'Soliloquy for Lilith', one of the strangest and most
unsettling things I've ever heard...
I suppose you could make a comparison to Coil's 'Time
Machines' though the only similarity they really share is
that they both consist of long drawn-out compositions that
are made up of several shifting sounds.
'Sililiquoy..' is much more weird and mysterious..

Thanks for the information and suggestions Cabbog. I've
heard "The Degenerate little town" on the radio in a spoken
word version by Thomas Ligotti himself. It was probably an
ultra rare recording... Anyway, I will take your advice and
look for 'Soliloquy for Lilith'.

What are some of your favorite Coil albums?

I'm a huge fan of coil and legendary pink dots, I haven't
heard much NWW yet. I'd like to. Stapleton did produce a
couple of great albums for LPD, "Malachai" and "Asylum"

Too much to list really
Horse Rotorvator(best), Scatology, Gold is the Metal, Stolen
and Contaminated Songs, Astral Disaster, Musick to play in
the dark 1/2... and of course the solstice/equinox series.
The track "Broken Aura" is great too. More, more, more :)

Well, I finally received 'Man with the Woman Face'.
It's a really great record.. Probably my favorite.
He takes things in completely new direction(think 'Nitpick'
off of the Seven Seals compilation). I would recommend it
to anyone on this board with even a mild interest in Nurse
with Wound.

almost died twice now :(

And Cabbog: thanks for your suggestion.

If you haven't ordered any of his albums yet I'd recommend
picking up 'Man with the Woman Face' first.
I think you'd really like it Laserbeak.

Yes, and not soon after Tibet was out of the hospital,
Stephen Thrower also suffered from a burst appendix and John
Balance had a suspected heart attack..
Poor boys! They need to take it easy..

What are some of your favorite Current 93 records?

nww, coil and current 93 is all too rare and expensive, I
hate it. however, Man with the woman face and Large ladies
with cake in the oven are incredible!

the new one is pretty good too... i personally prefer acts
of senseless beauty over all of them though. not too into
the earlier stuff, except maybe sylvie and babs.

Are you talking about 'Salt Marie Celeste' or 'Man with the
Woman Face'?

well obviuosly im talking about salt marie celeste since it
came out this year and since i already have man with the
woman face :P

I was confused. I have 'Music from the Horse Hospital' and
Nurse With Wound's 'Salt' song is alright - It's a bit
minimal and blurry... salty. Salt Marie Celeste IS derived
from it, though the concept is supposedly much more fleshed
out. I can't really comment as I haven't heard it yet. Jon
Whitney reviewed it in The Brain two weeks ago though in
case you weren't aware.

and tempstuous... i liked it quite a bit... im curious to
hear man with the woman face...
