Your favourite Indy film?

For me it used to be Raiders, the typical no-brainer
response, but now I think it's Indiana Jones and the
Temple of Doom
, despite the rather dull opening sequence
which used to put me right off.

doom is terrible. indy hitting women and children.
completely misjudged. as conceded by speilbugg and lucas.
george's divorse catharsis. Raiders and crusade are much
better films.

Hitting children? He slaps a child to break a spell and then
saves a whole village of children. Re: hitting women, there
are plenty of great films where a woman gets struck just as
there are plenty of great films where a man gets struck,
don't be so precious... the film is set in a bygone era and
back then women weren't respected as they are now, just
because some of that disrespect and arrogant chauvinism is
depicted doesn't make it a terrible film.

i like temple of doom but it's more of a fight between
Raiders and Crusade for me... i think Raiders will win it
indy end (see what i did there?)

raiders for me. followed by temple of doom. it's so over the
top, and it's definitely enjoyable!
last crusade, is just too much of a comedy. i fucken love
the film and find it hilarious and amusing, but raiders
definitely tops it.

lightest of them all..

i like last crusade for the mystical elements
and raiders for the girl with "i love you" written on her
eyelids

i absolutelylove all of the indy films, i think it's
one of the greatest trilogy ever. it used to be doom for me,
i liked the darkness of it, and spielberg can fuck off for
wanting a lighter feel to it.

but i just watched last crusade again, and the big
action/adventure scenes comes thick and fast. the tank
situation is brilliant.
river phoenix owned as young indy, ford and connery worked
really well together and the ending is perfect. everything
about that movie is great!

Watched all three over the last week in preparation for the
new film and although Raiders of the Lost Ark still stands
the test of time Temple of Doom made me feel like a small
boy again. Connery's a great addition in Last Crusade and,
even though it's not, it feels like the weakest film as it
just doesn't capture the rip roaring feel of the first two.
The end doesn't do it for me either (I would've liked to
have seen Connery take the knights place).

So, Raiders is the better film but I enjoy Temple of Doom
more.

Young Indiana Jones and the Attack of the Hawkmen

jk I barely remember the TV series. I need to go back to
the movies though its been so long. They kind of blend
together in my mind, but I remember seeing Raiders the most
as a kid. I'm sure I'll have a little marathon before
seeing the new one (maybe even rent some young indy).

Temple of Doom for me mainly because its the one I watched
most as a kid and grew up loving it. Haven't seen it for
years though. its kinda like the Bond film 'The Spy Who
Loved Me' not the best bond film, but one of the most
enjoyable!

I really love them all. Each has it's own unique qualities,
which just make them a pleasure to watch. Indy 4 has a lot
to live up to and I can't wait to see it next week.

its gonna have some great moments.

also its gonna be weird , cause it will be the first time
you seen it.. last time i saw an indie film for the first
time i was well young..

i just hope they don't repeat the script from the previous
films

star wars did that ...they kept saying the same
lines....even R2 D2 kept bleeping the same bleeps.

if marian says ...."im you god damn partner" i may let that
one go.

y know..

OK, but it was only at 61% when I linked it, plus even the

I hope the indy formula dosn't get a complete modern
reworking. I am worried because they would be soiling
something precious to me. I think we are all bound to be
disappointed cos we expect this new one to rival the old
trilogy whilst doing something new enough to be worth
watching. Thats a tricky balance

I've seen the trailer and I fear too much CGI will ruin the
film for me. Most of the action sequences in the first three
movies were entertaining, raw and somewhat realistic. If
they go over the top with the CGI, it'll be far too glossy
and 'epic' compared to the other three movies.

One of the biggest things mentioned is the relative lack of
apparent CGI, so you should be happy.

i think they are pretty much as good as the order they came
out in. The first one is clearly the best, the darkest movie
of the 3 and imo even more visceral and violent than Temple
(but still in a slapstick way). The scene where he meets
marrion and a gunfight erupts in the bar and the truck chase
sequence are still two of the best action scenes ever in
film history.
Last crusade is still a good film but i think the weakest of
the 3. Temple is fun because its even more of a
stereotypical 30's ish throwback and i heard its a prequel
not a sequel to Raiders... is this true?

these percentage tallies on rotten tomatoes are kind of
irritating to me. Its one thing to take something useful
away from a reviewer you know who gives you a number rating
like 7/10 or something but its strange to me that anyone can
take something useful from a aggregating average of hundreds
of reviewers they are unfamiliar with.

offline marlowe from Antarctica on 2008-05-19 13:00 [#02208239]

jackeroffer, Temple of Doom is indeed set before
Raiders

RE: Rotten Tomatoes, I like to scan the reviews - it's often
a pretty good way of getting the general feel of a film.
Also, an "average rating" is given for a film (at the moment
Indy IV is about 6.8/10).

offline jackeroffer from Aruba on 2008-05-19 16:04 [#02208297]

i also think Temple of Doom has the best musical score by
far. the mine car chase scene, slave theme, willie seduction
theme, and the spike room music is ridiculously good.
Probably my favorite ever of john williams besides empire
strikes back (yoda theme and the empire theme is
unbeatable).

one big dissapointment i know im going to have in Indy 4 is
ive already listened to the entire leaked score and there is
no recognizable 'theme' for the movie like in the previous
ones. they redo the 'dad' theme from crusade a lot im this
one as well as the ark theme from Raiders.

just curious how do they make known to the audience in
Temple that it takes place before Raiders? I didnt know this
until very recently and only found out by reading imdb
trivia.

i didnt mean to imply the Indy 4 music was shit, its
actually much better sounding to me than the john williams
stuff in the star wars prequals. this sounds very much like
classic indiana jones music with some new twists.

and about the date at the beginning of temple, ive never
noticed! do they make any other mentions of the year in the
film?
