Dunno if this picture has been posted before but it was
from a thunderstorm that took place during the volcanic
eruption in Chile. Pretty nice.

Well unfortunately I didn't take the fucking picture myself,
so access to the full res isn't really within my grasp.

The hightest res version I know of.

that will do nicely. now all we need is further info
regarding all photoshop techniques involved in the creation
of such a lovely image.

wow you are a genius.

long exposure can be anything from a second to several
minutes. F number, lens, camera, filters, photoshop?

no exif info to be found.

No photoshopping or manipulation of any kind. It's an actual
photograph of lightning striking an active volcano.

you cannot know this for sure. i know it probably looked
great out of the camera but if it was shot in raw, minor
tweaks to sharpness, contrast and whitebalance could have
and probably have been made, and while i don't really
consider that manipulation, it's still photoshopping.

the fact that these pics don't have exif info embedded is
very odd.

that said, i would be interested to know from a physics
viewpoint what causes the lightning bolts to act this way.

i was there! You can see me on the hill walking with a
donkey. right near that light at the base of the mushroom
cloud.

it wasn't so bad.

oh my god dude dont obsess over it. it's not like some kind
of fancy technique is the only thing keeping you from
shooting a brilliant photo of a lightening bolt and an
erupting volcano..its not rocket science here anyway...its
the same way someone might take photos of fireworks. long
enough exposure to catch some lightening, short enough so
that the ash isn't blurred from motion, focus at infinity,
and a bit of trial and error to eventually get the timing
right.

there are lots of reasons why there might not be any exif
data! like for example if the photographer was using film!

and older versions of photoshop strip exif data when you
'save for web'

im old enough to know your representation isnt just about
how u feel you look rather than how u feel or more than
likely a combination. i could go further but i like you so i
wont.
