I know a few of you are fans of his. I've just a very frank
and very interesting essay thing by him about how he
survives off his music, how he's kept afloat, and the nature
of the industry for small artists today.

Here

Even if you're not a fan I think it's a great read...

I'd get Ableton if I was use. I play with that a bit of
hardware (MPC 1000, kaoss pad, nord lead 3) and it works a
treat. You can have tonnes of loops you've already made and
record new ones in on the fly with a mic or a MIDI
controller. You can do as much or as little was you want.
:-)

Does ableton have what i need:
basic osc with all the basic osc parameters-no fancy
detracts-from-the-shaping-of-the-pure-wave synth.
Very basic literal audio file control ie cubase: I make all
my idm in the literal way. EVERYTHING is placed where i put
it. I don;t want too many mods/plugins to do it for me.
Does it have bitcrusher/distortion/compression...blahblah of
course it does. It's a miracle ityped this far it really
is.
THANKYOU CS2x for helping a drunken tramp

Hello sire...

It's not so good for placing things - I, like you, don't
like plugins and prefer to zoom in and place every event
where I want it. Ableton does have a more standard timeline
sequencer view for that, but it's not its strength (but that
might just because I spend most of my time using it live and
not making tracks on it.)

You can use vst synths in it, so if you can find a synth you
like, you can do standard synthesis stuff.

I wish I could be of more help, but I am not particularly
with it myself tonight. Good night my good man.

I both love and hate reading things like this.

Love because they generally give an insight into the minds
of the people who's music I buy.

Hate because in most cases they come out sounding like
pricks.

Boo fucking hoo...the world is full of people with artistic
talents who can't make a living out of it. That's why most
people have to go out and get a proper job.
