1988 Suburban

It's a real beast of a junker. I got what I paid for, $500.
Automatic. Doesn't go into Reverse or Park (I use the hand
brake), but I'm working on fixing that.

When I put it into Neutral, it will only roll freely
forward, not backwards. All other gears work fine.

The guy I bought it from said something about a "link" being
part of the transmission that is stuck. Could this be
because of a build-up of some sort? I'm not sure what the
link is, but I'm going to get a repair manual for the thing.
He said it just may need to be wiggled back in place.

Any advice on doing this by myself? Or would it be easier to
just pay to have a new transmission installed.

(Other than that issue, it works PERFECTLY and can drive me
to where I need to be. Thad, I'm coming to see YOU.)

I know nothing about vehicles. But please let me be here for
moral support.

Its a mediocre mix. Not pro. But not bad. Repetitive, but
not overwhelming. Thank you for the kind words. I miss cx.

I really like it. It does good things to the original but
doesn't replace it. Mine just felt a little strange. I do
like it though it just never really got mastered.

Yep! It's got a starts rolling slow, but once you've got
some open road and speed it REALLY fuckin' hauls.

There's so much room in the back too! seats 9, but all the
back and rear seats fold down too, so I can make it into a
bed/shag room/smoke spot. Or just collapse the middle row
and it's like a limo! Haha.

I've got 3/4 of a tank and it's had a little work done to it
to make it more efficient. Get's 25 MPG highway.

thats what my friend did to his, very good with heat and
winter time

I'll have to eventually. But in the meantime it drives fine.
Just can't reverse it. So I park on the street instead of
the driveway. E brake instead of putting it in park. I'm
just working on a temporary fix.

didn't you kick one of the tires to test the vehicles
quality before you bought it?

to do that kind of tranny work by yourself requires
extensive knowledge of the bands, torque converter, ect..
and since you only paid 500 for it, i dont think you should
drop another 1500-2000 for a rebuilt tranny. if it drives
fine in foward just let it be. not having reverse will
become second-nature to you after awhile. just make sure to
keep that e-brake working properly ;)

Yep. Shouldn't be too much of a trouble. I mean, it would be
nice to have a functioning reverse and neutral gear.
But I can live with it as is.

1500-2000? I'm guessing it's more expensive the older the
vehicle.

I've got a friend who is a mechanic and will help me put in
a new one for free, but I don't really have the money to do
that. I'm guessing I'll just drive it, take as good of care
of it as possible then sell it for scrap and parts when it
finally does become inoperable.

All I really know about vehicles is basic tune-up stuff,
changing brakes, alternators, starters, and
cosmetic/interior detailing. Haha.

AMPI MAX: I look forward to hear the remix(es)!

well i would say 1500-2000 for the rebuilt tran and
installation. but since you have a friend who is a mechanic,
that would cut the price at least in half. talk to him, im
sure he has a better solution than the both of us

(I know very little about cars/trucks so dont drive it
here,e xpecting me to get all gearhead) we have one liek
that at work

read quick.......25 miles highway, not bad
doesnt it just guzzle gas though?
ill have to read later

In town it guzzles. It's a V8, but uses Unleaded, not
Diesel. The gas mileage isn't as good as some vehicles, but
it ain't bad.
